What to expect
Baku
Drive through the countryside of Azerbaijan and see the ‘Five-Fingered Mountain. Beshbarmak is a place of pilgrimage for the local population and thanks to its height and shape, has been an excellent reference point for sailors since time immemorial.Your professional guide will tell you the mythical stories associated with this place.
Khizi
The district of Khizi is famous for its unusual nature, especially the mountains. Sometimes it is also called "the edge of the red mountains". Its scenery reminds me of the Martian landscapes. This natural phenomenon attracts tourists to Khizi, who spill out their emotions into numerous photo sessions, statuses and blog entries. If you are a nature lover, you must visit and enjoy impressive mountains of Khizi.
Qechresh
Qechresh is one of the largest villages in the Guba region. It is located 12 km from the district center. There are many recreation centers in the village. The area is covered with forest on all sides. Qechresh is famous for its natural springs and plants. The wild walnuts, hazelnuts, cranberry, hawthorn, hips, apples, pears and pine trees grown there. As for the animal world, the village is a home for gazelles, wolves, bears, foxes and other animals. It is also possible to catch fish in Gudjalchay, which gives a special beauty to the village.
Quba
The Red Settlement is located across the Kudyal River from the larger town of Quba. It is the primary settlement of Azerbaijan's population of highland, or mountain Jews who make up the population of approximately 4,000. The most widely spoken language in Red town is Juhuri. Red town is considered to be the world's last surviving shtetl. The settlement is sometimes referred to as the Red Town or the Red Village, possibly because of the red tiling used on many of the roofs. Other sources attribute the name to the protected status the town received during the Soviet period, when it was shielded from persecution during World War II.
Khinalug (Xınalıq) is the highest, most remote and isolated village in Azerbaijan and among the highest in the Caucasus (elevation of 2,350 m) and amongst the oldest continuously inhabited places in the world. It is considered as one of country’s premiere destination with beautiful landscape and interesting village. Khinalug ceased to be isolated from the world, although still remaining a unique place. In the year 2007, Khinalug village was declared a state historical-architectural and ethnographic reserve of Azerbaijan by UNESCO.
