The pick-up process went smoothly and the van is comfortable. They even stopped at a coffee shop on the way so we could get coffee and a snack if desired. The hike itself was steeper and more challenging than anticipated. We are from Colorado, USA, which is based at 5000+ feet of elevation, and are avid hikers. Hiking boots or shoes with good tread are necessary--we did not see anyone in sneakers. Hiking poles would help with the steep ascent (1000+ feet of elevation gain) and descent, which was slippery due to sand and loose stones/rocks. They do stop and provide breaks and information, and we were not hounded by the guides about the horses as other reviews noted. They offered them passively and otherwise ignored us. Bug repellant spray is a good idea and dress in layers. We had a small group of maybe 20 people in total, but spread out during the hike, did not link up with any other tours, and did not feel rushed. The total roundtrip distance was 3.75 miles. Overall, I would recommend this tour!

Amazing views, tour guide was fun and he knew things about the mountains and the volcano. Only issue was the people trying to sell you horses along the way was a little annoying. Also note this is NOT beginner friendly hike you are climbing up the whole time on rocks. Also I felt bad for the horses lol but I’m a animal lover

I loved my experience, although it was difficult, if you don’t have great cardio like me, you’ll struggle. I went on the 6AM hike and I was perfect weather and less people hiking. You start off the day by being picked up, you take a quick stop at a cafe for food and only bathroom break, afterwards you’ll drive about an hour away to the volcano, you’ll meet your guide, use the bathroom and pay the entrance fee. There will be people bugging you, trying to convince you to use a horse but that’s about $30-40 USD and they don’t go up all the way, you can also rent a stick, definitely recommend a stick for going down the volcano but you will go thru this slip n’ slide part. In some parts of the hike you will stop buy store that sells food, drinks, and has a shrek-like bathroom. Afterwards you’ll stop at a gift shop that sells items made out of lava rocks, some cool things, recommend bringing min 100Q. Definitely had a great guide, that allowed me to go at my own pace and take as many breaks as needed since the uphill hike was brutal for me but overall I enjoyed the experience
