    As advertised this tour took us on a walk through Lisbon with a focus on the influence of Portugal’s colonial past on its cuisine, and the tour delivered as promised. We were fed good food, which was well explained, taken to interesting places you would never find yourself as a tourist, taken into some of the kitchens to see the food production, and served drinks, including wine. Although a 4-5 hour tour may seem daunting the time never dragged, and we stopped regularly to sit down and eat. Additionally, our guide Ines gave us so much more than just an insight into food. Along the journey Ines weaved in information about Portugal’s colonial past and more recent immigration experience and we learned about its impact not only on food but on the general culture and make up of Portuguese society. Ines was informative and entertaining. This tour is highly recommended and I am so impressed with Culinary Backstreets they will be one of the first activities I will look for when researching any future travel plans.

    Our tour of the Arroios neighborhood with Joao (aka Jonny) was fun, informative, and most of all delicious! We sampled food with roots in Brazil, Cape Verde, Mozambique and Goa. We particularly enjoyed eating in small, family-owned restaurants that we never would have found on our own. The highlight was an introduction to Cachupa, the national dish of Cape Verde. Muito Gostoso!

    It was our family's favorite day in Lisbon. We had Kika as our guide, her history lesson was interesting to listen to, and she took excellent care of our group of a wide range of ages. My toddler loved her and stayed by her for most of the tour. As for the tour, we specifically loved that it focuses on the blend of culture and background between Portugal and its colonial influence. If you're interested in human migration and diaspora and also enjoy good food, this is the tour!!!

    We had such an amazing tasting tour of Lisbon with the most adorable young woman Laura. I had booked this tour for 6 girlfriends thinking it would be 2 - 3 hours. Laura took us around to amazing places for 7 hours! We loved every minute of it. She gave us so much history, took us to really authentic places, knew people everywhere we went and was wonderful. We wanted her to stay with us for our entire trip. I highly recommend Laura and Culinary Backstreets!

    Every Culinary Backstreet Walk I’ve taken has been a fantastic learning experience and Kika upheld the high quality of these experiences. Her knowledge of the food and its historical and cultural path to Lisbon was extensive, interesting, and well presented. And of course the food was delicious. Kika is a personable leader who makes all participants at ease. This tour is highly recommended!
