We came from Stalis, please do not follow Google Maps, but head towards Heraklion, then onto the 92!
It was a wonderful experience, even if our poor English was a hindrance.
Short tour in the vineyard with explanation, information also in the winery.
Then the vineyard guide met us and led us with full baskets to our spot between olive trees and grapevines. There was so much food: Dolma, zucchini balls, small gyro pitas, cheese/sausage/ham/almonds, etc., along with matching wines with explanations in white, rosé, and red for the individual dishes. After a good hour, dessert: very thin pita with feta cream, honey, cinnamon, and walnuts - naturally with dessert wine.
Whoever can should drive in a group and have a non-drinker along 😉.
As the driver, I didn't empty the glasses completely.
It was beautiful and worth every bit of the $70/person.
We took home 3 bottles of the rosé and one bottle of the dessert wine.

My partner and I had a wonderful picnic experience. Our guide Kostas was very kind and informative. He not only had a wealth of knowledge about wine but also shared some recommendations for places to visit during the rest our time in Crete. I'm overblown by the kindness of the Cretan people. Perfect combination of good wine and local hospitality. Highly recommend.
