    The Hike was beautiful but don't let your guide discourage you from going up to the monastery as that is the hike that you pay for and is a beautiful hike. My guide made it seem long and difficult which scared my husband from doing it but it's totally fine if a hike. Finish what was paid for. The hike to the monastery. Otherwise the hike is beautiful as is Mallorca.

This walk is circular and has a moderately low ascending difficulty. The highlight of the route is the spectacular views of Sa Dragonera (“The Dragon Island”), which lies just offshore on the southwest part of Mallorca, the 400- year-old “Torre de Cala ses Bassets” Watchtower, and, of course, the ruins of Sa Trapa Monastery, originally a Trappist Monastery which since the 1800s was abandoned and fell into deterioration, ruin and obliviation. In 1980, this place was acquired by the Balearic Nature Protection Organization, which started to rebuild some monuments. La Tapa has been declared a “Special protection area for birds” and a “Wildlife refuge.” Among its values are 14 varieties of Orchids and 16 endemic species of plants and birds, such as the Balearic Warbler, Osprey, Black Vulture, and Eleonor ́s Falcon. The area around La Trapa is being slowly rebuilt, and the idea is to become a hikers’ refuge one day. For many, it also is the first or the last stage along the GR-221.
