What to expect
Mount Aso Mount Aso, located in the northeastern part of Kumamoto Prefecture in Kyushu, is a famous active volcano in Japan with a cratered shape that is rarely seen in the world. It is one of the few places where you can see an active volcano up close. You can gaze into the caldera from a safe distance and see the white smoke rising from the crater, creating a breathtaking experience of nature's power and stunning beauty. Aso Sangokusenri Aso Sangokusenri is a prairie located at the northern foot of Mt. Umagatake. There is a pond formed by rainwater in the center of the prairie, and cattle and horses graze on the prairie, providing a diverse range of scenery throughout the year. The 20,000-hectare grassland is so vast that you can enjoy a leisurely walk in the lush green grassland, watch free-ranging cows and sheep, and breathe in the fresh air of the mountains, giving you the illusion of being in a fairyland.

Aso Roadside Station
Aso Roadside Station (no guide). Mount Aso boasts one of the world's few large calderas and the Gaiwakuyama mountain range, which can be seen from the Aso Five Mountains. Specialty products can only be purchased here, such as seasonal vegetables, fruits, meats, dairy products, desserts, and handmade bento. A statue of Usopp from the Straw Hat Pirates is displayed in the Aso Station plaza as part of a collaboration between Kumamoto Prefecture and "King of Thieves," a popular manga written by the prefecture's manga artist, Eiichiro Oda.
JR Kumamoto Station
Return to Kumamoto Station on the Aso Boy sightseeing train (unguided). The interior of the Aso Boy train has a strong focus on children's experiences. There are as many as 101 mascots, "Kuro," who accompany children on their journeys at all times. Additionally, the train has many child-friendly features, such as Mascot Kuro. Kuro is the mascot of JR Kyushu, and after meeting the Aso Boys Train, he became the virtual stationmaster of the train. Kuro not only creates a child-friendly atmosphere, but also serves as a messenger of friendship, interacting with children, adults, and other IP partners. Blackie can be seen on the train, from the body, interior to souvenirs, and adds a lot of excitement to children's journeys.
