Saint John Aliturgetos is an Orthodox church, situated in Nessebar. It belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Saint John Aliturgetos was built in the 14th century.
Church of Christ Pantocrator
The Church of Christ Pantokrator is considered one of the most beautiful churches in Nessebar. This 14th-century building is an architectural masterpiece and worth a visit.
Built around the 5th or 6th Century, the Eastern Orthodox church features ancient Bulgarian architecture and is made of stone and bricks with a large semi-circular vault, two-story pillars, arched windows, and archways. Back in the day, it served as an important place of worship for twelve centuries until it was deserted in the 1800s.
The church’s name is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary with the name Eleusa, meaning “the Tender” in Greek. It was constructed in the 6th century. It’s supposed, that it is the oldest church on the territory of Nessebar. According to historical chronicles, it was part of a monastery complex in the 14th century.
Old Nessebar
The Old town Nessebar is located on a peninsula with a length of 850 meters and a width of 300 meters. You can visit several Christian churches dating back from the period from 4th-5th centuries to the end of the 19th century.
The Church of Sant John the Baptist is a medieval Orthodox Church, situated in Nessebar. It belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was built in the X-XI century. It is considered one of the best-preserved churches in Nessebar.
Church of the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel
The Church of the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel is a partially preserved medieval Eastern Orthodox church. It was built in the 13th or 14th century and forms part of the Ancient Nesebar UNESCO World Heritage Site.
