Power Memorial Park

Stop at Power Memorial Park and Mudjimba Beach Boardwalk During the e-bike tour, we’ll stop at Power Memorial Park, where the boardwalk provides stunning views of Mudjimba Beach and Mudjimba Island, also known as "Old Woman Island." This small rocky islet, part of the Maroochy River Conservation Park, holds cultural significance for the local Aboriginal Kabi Kabi people. The island’s name comes from the Kabi word "midyim," referring to the Midyam bush that grows sweet, speckled berries. According to legend, two women stranded on the island survived by eating these berries, leading to its nickname. Another tale says the island represents the severed head of the warrior Coolum, cast into the sea during a battle. Beyond its legends, Mudjimba Island is known for its rich marine ecosystem, vibrant coral reefs, and excellent snorkeling, diving, and surfing opportunities. This stop offers the perfect mix of history, mythology, and natural beauty to enrich your Sunshine Coast experience.

Point Arkwright Lookout And Picnic Area

A stop at Point Arkwright Lookout offers stunning panoramic views of the Sunshine Coast coastline and the iconic headland. Originally named Petrie Heads after explorer Andrew Petrie, it was later renamed to honor Sir Richard Arkwright, an English inventor. This location holds significant cultural importance to the First Nations people, who regard it as a sacred site tied to their heritage, ceremonies, and storytelling. The lookout is also renowned for whale watching during migration season, from June to November. Visitors can often see humpback whales breaching and tail-slapping near the shore, especially during peak months when pods with calves pass by. With its natural beauty and historical significance, the lookout is a popular spot for outdoor events and relaxation. Its striking rhyolite cliffs and unique column patterns make it a natural wonder. The mountain is ecologically rich, hosting over 700 plant species, including rare ecosystems like coastal montane heath and rainforest remnants, making it a biodiversity hotspot. Culturally significant to the Aboriginal Kabi Kabi people, its name, gulum or kulum, means "without."
