This is the holiest Hindu place in all of Nepal and one of the holiest in all of Hinduism. Nestled on both banks of the sacred Bagmati River are temples, ghats, and shrines. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is home to many Babas as well as other Hindu holy men.
This pilgrim site of Buddhist Stupa included this tour cause this is nearby Pashupatinath and en-route to Budhanilkantha. While you visit Kathmandu skipping this is trip incomplete. The Budhanilkantha area is known as the famous Hindu temple of Budhanikanth. When we get there we can buy some materials for Puja (For Hindus only) and start from the basement of the Holy water tap. It is a small but pilgrimage area for special for Hindus. Non-Hindus are allowed to go and they can learn house Hindus culture.
Budhanilakantha Temple
While not a UNESCO World Heritage Site; it definitely should be. Here is one of the oldest shrines in the Kathmandu Valley which features a 5-meter long idol of Lord Vishnu reclining on the cosmic sea. The idol is made of a black stone that is not native to the Kathmandu Valley. This sacred temple was erected by the Licchavi dynasty that ruled the Kathmandu Valley nearly a millennium ago.
