What to expect
As we meet up at the promenade you will see the southern wall of the Diocletian's palace, the Split harbour as well as the eastern and the western promenade/coast. I will provide you with some interesting information about the location of Split and it's surroundings and what makes the city of Split such a popular and unique destination.
We will enter the substructures of the Palace through the southern entrance of the Palace (the Bronze Gate), I will explain the specific role the substructures have had through history as we pass through the main corridor towards the Peristyle Square.
The Peristyle of Diocletian's Palace
We will stop at the central ancient square of the Palace, the famous Peristyle Square where I will lay out the historical and cultural background of this unique historical site.
Cathedral of Saint Domnius
I will explain what role the Mausoleum of the emperor Diocletian had and how it was turned into a Cathedral, I will also tell you something about the construction style of both the Cathedral and the adjacent Bell Tower, we will not be entering inside but I will provide you with all the important details as we observe them from the outside.
As we leave the Peristyle Square we will visit the Temple of Jupiter and I will explain how it was turned into a baptistery as Christianity spread within the walls of the Palace. The Sphinx in front serves as a stark contrast to the sacral nature of the baptistery. We will not be entering inside the baptistery.
Passing through the narrowest of all streets in Split the famous "Pusti me Proć" we reach the Fruit's square where I will talk about the town of Split and it's development or the lack thereof at the time when Split was under Venetian rule.

The City Museum of Split is located in the Papalic Palace. The palace has a great historical significance and for all the Game of Thrones fans there is also an interesting albeit bloody scene that takes place in front of the palace.
The Golden Gate
The Northern, the most beautiful and the most decorated entrance to the Diocletian's palace, the way it is built is impressive and it is a testament to the building expertise of the ancient Romans.

Just opposite the Northern Gate we will see the impressive statue of the Bishop Grgur of Nin, a work by the famous Croatian sculptor Ivan Meštrović. I will explain why the bishop Grgur represents such an important figure in the Croatian history.
The Bell Tower of St. Arnir
Just next to the statue of the bishop Grgur of Nin we will see the beautiful Bell Tower of saint Arnir along with the chapel of Saint. Arnir and the remnants of an early Christian church. Here I will say a couple of words about the situation in Split in World War 2.
