What to expect
The Concentration Camp Memorial Site makes Dachau Europe's central place of learning and remembrance. More than 900,000 people from all over the world come here each year to learn from the lessons of contemporary history. Regular comitted events on contemporary history help to keep the memory of what happened alive.
The permanent exhibition documents the history of National Socialism in Munich, the city’s special role in the Nazi system of terror and Munich’s difficulties in confronting its past after 1945. As well as the permanent exhibition, there are also a series of special exhibitions, a learning centre, a varied programme of events and various educational resources.
The palace was the main summer residence of the former rulers of Bavaria of the House of Wittelsbach. The palace, together with its park, is now one of the most famous sights of Munich. The baroque facades comprise an overall width of about 700 metres. Some rooms still show their original baroque decoration while others were later redesigned in rococo or neoclassical style.
Nowhere else can the brand be felt as strongly as here. BMW Welt is located in the immediate vicinity of the main BMW factory, the company’s headquarters in the legendary BMW Tower, and the BMW Museum. BMW Welt is a place full of stories in a place full of history. BMW Welt welcomes you as you get to know the brand. Discover a whole world of possibilities, whether you are paying a visit to the BMW Museum, picking up your new BMW or holding an event at the venue.
The Olympic Park in northern Munich is well known beyond the borders of the capital city. The unique tent architecture of the buildings and the Olympic Tower are some of Munich’s well known landmarks. After the Olympic Games in 1972, a 300-hectare-sized park was developed into a recreation center for the entire city. Joggers, cyclists, and walkers take their laps here, and swimmers do lengths in the Olympic swimming facility. At over 50 meters (150 feet) high, the Olympic Hill towers over the park grounds and is an ideal spot to enjoy a view of the roofs of Munich and to the mountains beyond.
Munich Marienplatz
Marienplatz is a central square in the city centre of Munich, Germany. It has been the city's main square since 1158. The Glockenspiel in the tower of the new city hall was inspired by these tournaments, and draws millions of tourists a year. Furthermore, the pedestrian zone between Karlsplatz and Marienplatz is a crowded area with numerous shops and restaurants.
Konigsplatz
Königsplatz is a square in Munich, Germany. Built in the style of European Neoclassicism in the 19th century, it is a center of cultural life. The area around Königsplatz is today the home to the Kunstareal, Munich's gallery and museum quarter.
English Garden
With an area of 3.7 km2 (1.4 sq mi) (370 ha or 910 acres), the Englischer Garten is one of world's largest urban public parks. The name refers to its English garden form of informal landscape, a style popular in England from the mid-18th century to the early 19th century and particularly associated with Capability Brown.
Eisbach Wave
The Eisbach (German for "ice brook") is a small, two kilometer long, manmade river in Munich. It flows through the park known as the Englischer Garten, and is a side arm of the Isar River. A manmade wave has been created on one section. The wave is predominantly used by surfers, and animosities of surfers towards kayakers have occasionally been reported.
The Feldherrnhalle (Field Marshals' Hall) is a monumental loggia on the Odeonsplatz in Munich, Germany. Modelled after the Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence, it was commissioned in 1841 by King Ludwig I of Bavaria to honour the tradition of Bavarian Army. In 1923, it was the site of the brief battle that ended Hitler's Beer Hall Putsch. During the Nazi era, it served as a monument commemorating the death of 16 members of the Nazi party.
The Allianz Arena is a football stadium in Munich, Bavaria, Germany with a 75,000 seating capacity. Widely known for its exterior of inflated ETFE plastic panels, it is the first stadium in the world with a full colour changing exterior. Located at 25 Werner-Heisenberg-Allee at the northern edge of Munich's Schwabing-Freimann borough on the Fröttmaning Heath, it is the second-largest arena in Germany behind Westfalenstadion in Dortmund.
