What to expect
Chichen Itza
Chichén Itzá, ruined ancient Maya city occupying an area of 4 square miles (10 square km) in south-central Yucatán state, Mexico. It is thought to have been a religious, military, political, and commercial centre that at its peak would have been home to 35,000 people.
Pyramid of Kukulcan
The Pyramid of Kukulcán, also called El Castillo by the Spanish conquerors, is a temple pyramid in the ruined city of Chichén Itzá in the north of the Yucatán Peninsula. Visible is the "Younger Pyramid," with at least one predecessor structure hidden inside.
Warriors' Temple
Imposing Mayan temple with remains of a portico whose pillars are decorated with carved warriors.
El Caracol, the Observatory, is a unique structure at the pre-Columbian Mayan civilization site of Chichen Itza. El Caracol, which means "snail" in Spanish, owes its name to the spiral staircase inside the tower.
Temple of the Great Tables
Called the Temple of the Tables because of the superimposed levels that give the appearance of plateaus, this temple built next to the Temple of the Warriors, is a small pyramid of four levels that previously culminated with a temple with two serpent columns.
