The Macorix Rum House is a historical museum of the Macorix Rum Family. Founded in 1899 by the Carrion family of the town of San Pedro de Macoris, a place considered by many to be the land of poets, artists, and sugarcane. 110 years later, Ron Macorix became part of the Vinicola del Norte family of the port city of Puerto Plata, uniting two emblematic rum-producing towns in the Dominican Republic. You will also have the opportunity to taste six types of rum after leaving the museum.

If you're in Puerto Plata, you have to visit Monseñor de Puerto Plata, a cigar factory. They roll cigars, press them tightly, and then roll them again. It's a small factory with cigar boxes, tobacco leaves, metal presses, and shelves packed with cigars everywhere. Add to that the eye-popping smell of tobacco and cigars, and you'll also have the opportunity to make your own cigars and try them out in the factory. You'll also have the opportunity to learn about Dominican cigars.
Fifi Jewelry Amber Museum is one of the most visited places in Puerto Plata. Inside, it hosts one of the biggest resin exhibitions in the Dominican Republic. The country has the most important amber deposits in the world; moreover, blue, green or warm honey colours are unique from this area due to its volcanic activity. Here, you can discover the history of this vegetal-origin precious stone. One of the most important stones of this museum is a 40cm lizard conserved inside a piece of amber. This resin can hold prehistoric fossils of plants and little animals on its inside due to its sticky nature, that turns this stone in subject of study. It is said that Steven Spielberg was inspired by this museum when he was working on his famous film Jurassic Park.
