Brilliant day with Panos trekking the Kourtaliotiko river gorge! One of the highlights of our trip in Crete. Panos is a fantastic guide, sharing local knowledge and stories, and he also provided all the necessary equipment, making us feel safe and confident throughout the trek. We are keen amateur hikers and fairly fit, but not regular hardcore/hobbyist hikers, and Panos was very patient and supportive. The gorge is absolutely stunning, especially once we'd trekked away from all the crowds at the beginning - pristine pools of spring water and breathtaking scenery, with no sound but the song of birds. An experience of a lifetime!

Beautiful experience. Our guide Alkis was passionate and very kind. The whole family really enjoyed this trekking. The water was cool but worth it. The falls are memorable;-) We would do it again without hesitation.

We had an amazing time. Our guide was very welcoming, knowledgeable and friendly, and spoke perfect English. The tour itself with it's views was breathtaking, you get to see some corners you just wouldn't see if you go alone. The meetup point was easy to find, and in itself a highlight, with a small tavern with great foot and fresh fruits and juice. Plus we got a whole meal there as well. Because of a thunderstorm warning we had to reschedule, that worked out as well without any problems. Can really highly recommend for anyone seeking a small nature adventure off the beaten path!

Our day out with Panos and two other families was a day to remember. Panos was so knowledgeable about the gorge, wildlife, herbs and nooks and crannies of the river and a very pleasant guide. Our group was 8 people which made everything more personal as it made the shared experience even more special. The freezing water near the waterfall is worth swimming through (you will acclimatise) to witness the thundering power of the water and beauty of the gorge. I took my 14 year old video game loving child with me and he was so grateful! You do need to be moderately fit as a lot of walking both on and off land, some swimming, voluntary jumping all wrapped up with a lovely complimentary meal by our host. I highly recommend this tour - 8 years in Crete and this has definitely been one of our highlights. Thank you Panos!! I will be back with other visitors to the island 👍

What to expect

Join us in a unique river trekking experience at the heart of Crete island. We will discover the hidden wilderness of a Cretan gorge by hiking through it. The walk starts by swimming to an amazing well hidden waterfall. Its power and greatness will impress you. Then we will follow the river's bed splashing into crystal clear waters and natural pools having fun inside a beautiful natural landscape. Our gorge is a unique ecosystem and you will have the chance to observe several amphibious animals such as frogs , colourfulll dragonflies , sweet water turtles and if we are lucky spot some vultures flying above us ! The middle part of the route is isolated from the crowds and suitable for everyone without demanding parts. Later on we will stop for a snack under some huge plane trees having time to swim around and prepare local tea for everyone! Before we finish our tour we will walk through some beautiful gardens with tropical vegetation and a typical Cretan olive grove. Last but not least if you wish to have lunch follow us on a shady Greek taverna for some Greek tapas and a cold beer. We will provide you with the suitable equipmnet to enjoy the most of it .
