    We were 6 couples wanting to travel around the main island of Orkney for an extended weekend. This was made possible by the services of Scapa taxi. We had a fairly complex itinerary requiring pick up and off at a range of different locations and times. Scapa taxi handled this beautifully. Which really took a lot of pressure off me who were coordinating this trip with, to be frank, quite demanding people. Hats off!

    I had been in contact with Stewart a couple of times by email about arranging a private tour of the island on the day our cruise ship was in port. Stewart provided us with helpful information and several suggestions for things to do. On the day of our arrival, we were slightly delayed getting off the ship, but Stewart was very flexible. We had hoped to photograph puffins, so he drove us to Yesnaby Castle sea stack, sharing stories about life on the island along the way. It was just a 15-minute walk from the car park, and the view was absolutely stunning. Unfortunately, due to the strong wind and the early season, we didn’t see any puffins—but that didn’t take away from the experience at all. Stewart then took us on a scenic drive across the island, bringing us to the highest point, where we enjoyed a magnificent view of Kirkwall and our cruise ship. He later dropped us off in the center of Kirkwall, where we did some souvenir shopping. Stewart was incredibly helpful and kind, and we loved having the freedom to choose what to see and where to go. Ship-organized excursions often take you to places you’re not particularly interested in, and you might spend either too much or too little time at each stop. This private tour was a fantastic way to explore the island at our own pace and focus only on the things we cared about. If we ever return to Kirkwall, we would definitely book this tour again.

    Donna was a great Guide! She had great information about the sights. We had as much time at each stop as we wanted and didn’t have to deal with others on a bus ! Worth booking for sure!!

    A really interesting and informative day! Ferry to ferry service and a great tour of Orkney- Skara Brae was a highlight, but thoroughly enjoyed it all. Our guide was full of local knowledge.

    A wonderful tour (not only) to prehistoric times. Our driver Kenny was a real connoisseur of history and the country with its sights and traditions. The 4 hours passed far too fast!

    Standing Stones of Stenness

    Standing Stones of Stenness

    We will stop to take a walk and have photo oppertunites round our earliest stone circle, erected about 5400 years ago. Just north of Standing Stones we have a small neolithic village called Barnhouse, unlike Skara Brae this was only in use for a few centuries dating from 3115BC to 2875BC.

    Ring of Brodgar

    Ring of Brodgar

    As we continue our descent into our neolithic past we come to our biggest stone circle, The Ring of Brodgar part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. We believe this magnificent stone circle is the last of the great Neolithic Monuments built on the Ness dating back to 2500BC and 2000BC. These are 5000 years older than Stone Henge and Pyramids of Giza.

    Skara Brae

    Skara Brae

    We will arrive at Skara Brae, our best preserved prehistoric Neolithic settlement in Western Europe. There are 9 surviving houses where you can imagine how life used to be, within these houses you can see where the slept, had their fires and even built in furniture. With your admission ticket you can visit Skaill House a 17th century mansion.

    Yesnaby Cliffs

    Yesnaby Cliffs

    We will take a drive to see spectacular views as well as seeing our sea and bird life at yesnaby, where you can feel like your on the edge of the world. If your feeling up to it we can take a walk to Yesnaby Castle, a delicate sea stack not far from the car park. The ground may be uneven and can be slippy so please enjoy the views at a safe distance.

    We can have a photo oppertunity at Scorradale looking towards Hoy hills, Stromness and views across Scapa Flow.

    The Italian Chapel

    The Italian Chapel

    After a scenic 25 minute drive from Orphir we will embark towards The Italian Chapel which was built out of scrap by the Italian Prisoners of War who also helped to construct the Churchill Barriers in WW2.

    An optional excursion to experience a taste of local craftsmanship to a nearby Local Distillery "Scapa", allowing you to explore their shop and enjoy a sampling of their spirits.
