Snowmobiling & Natural Ice Cave from Geysir Area

We were picked up promptly at our meeting point and had an adventurous 40 min (ish) drive pausing briefly to deflate the van tires along the way. We couldn’t hear what our guide was saying as we sat in the back, but the ride was fun (and bumpy). When we got to the mountain there were bathrooms and we got suited up in a snowsuit, balaclava, gloves, helmet, and goggles that they provided. We had another short drive to the snowmobiles, had a short block of instructions and off we went! We rode for about 25 mins in line and then stopped for 10 mins for pictures. Then rode back, got on the van to their mountain lair, undressed, used the restrooms, had some cookies (the hot water for coffee and tea hadn’t been turned on so we had cold tea), and then rode back to the meeting point stopping for 10 mins to inflate tires on the way. Our guide was great, the experience was wonderful and we had a blast! If you sit in the back of the snowmobile be prepared to get a little more wet…our son got his boots and gloves soaked from the snow kickback. We only did the snowmobile, not the ice cave. I would rate this experience 5 stars and loads of fun! Enjoy!

Fuyez. C’est un attrape touriste. Très mal organisés. Nous avons dû attendre avant de partir vers le glacier. Nous étions 3 mini bus. Une fois sur place, nous étions tellement nombreux qu’il manquait des motoneiges. Nous avons dû attendre encore 30 minutes. Puis départ les uns derrières les autres, 20 motoneiges, ça n’avance pas. Au total 30 minutes de motoneige. Visite d’une toute petite grotte de glace, aucun intérêt. Sur le retour, nous avons dû attendre 20 minutes à cause de problèmes avec les pneus du camion. Heureusement que les gars étaient sympa et le paysage magnifique, ça a un peu compensé cette organisation et attrape couillon.

Views was amazing, staff was great. Gave lots of interesting info! Peter was an amazing guide really took his time to make our experience enjoyable. Amazing experience definitely will be doing it again when I’m back in Iceland

Unfortunately our trip was awful. There was a storm in Iceland a few days before our trip to the glacier and snowmobile tour. The storm left large amounts of snow on the glacier. The day started at 10:15. The supplied goggles were very scratched and pretty worn out. Sweating the assets. The bus we were on did not have a functioning door. It had to be closed using a ratchet strap. On eventually returning, our driver couldn’t open the door…. What would have happened if there was a fire? Would 20 people get out? The excuse, reason from the snowmobile guide…. It’s cold in Iceland, these things happen. Hmmm, might just be under investment. One of the operators buttons on the dash had to be held in place by a toothpick. Old vehicles that need updating. One of the drivers said…. The sprinter has 300hp, on a good day that’s enough, we have the oldest fleet of vehicles! On the way up the glacier one of the vehicles got stuck in the deep snow. Nobody had scouted the route. The drivers comment… we had to turn back yesterday, let’s see how we do today! Surely, if it is a bit dodgy, you go and see before taking 40 paying guests up? The vehicle that got stuck was leaning at an alarming angle. It took one of the guests to suggest everyone get out before it toppled. Drivers response, oh yes… a good idea. At the glacier, no toilet facilities. The response, go around the back of the building. Just about ok for gents. For ladies in multiple layers? Really not acceptable or practical. In the end you needed to hold it in from 10:15 to 17:30. Not good enough. No water was available either? So, for 7 hours no toilet and no hydration. On the way back, both vehicles were stuck in the deep snow. No communication at all. The radio traffic was interesting… does anyone have a tow hook…. No, no, no. Prepared? NO! If your vehicles are not up to the job, cancel the trip. Don’t collect the cash. On eventually returning, I asked who was in charge to the drivers. Nobody on site was in charge or accountable? If you have anything to say, email the office. I did email twice. No response. Summary, if the weather is good and not challenging I’m sure they can cope. Be careful, they are very amateur!
