Archeological Park of Herculaneum

Herculaneum was recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site thanks to the presence of civil and private buildings, monuments, sculptures, paintings and mosaics of great importance for the history of archeology and for antiquity. The visitor entering through one of the Herculaneum is a very famous archaeological site located about 10 km from Naples on the eastern side of Vesuvius and close to the sea. In 62 AD a strong earthquake destroyed many factories and seventeen years later (79 AD) the terrible eruption of Vesuvius completely buried the city. The excavations offer visitors the beauty of private houses and villas that still retain charred furniture, organic finds and multiple wooden elements belonging to the structural and architectural parts of the buildings.
