    Wonderful tour. Our guide was amazing! So informative and interesting. Definitely would recommend to anyone visiting St John's. A good amount of walking and a bit of stairs/hills but not too much. Always time to rest while you listen to a great story. I only wish I had more time and could have done the food tour too.

    If you like unfiltered history and you like to walk, this is your tour! David was fantastic, and his sister Jane came along for additional perspective. Politics, bar fights, high finance, German U-Boats, it was all there. You should not attempt however unless physically fit, the steep hills even had the tour guide puffing and will challenge even a Billy goat. For those who are fit, you will get the best 6500 steps you ever had!

    For 6 months I planned a trip to Newfoundland, and I signed up and prepaid for about nine different day tours. The first tour was to be wedged in between 2 flights, as I had only 24 hours in St. John's. Worried my flight could be delayed I also signed up for the tour the following morning before flying out. I was happy to pay for both tours, but the operator said he would only charge me for the one I actually took. He understood my situation and seemed eager to assist. We both discussed various options which included my asking if it was at all possible to delay the first tour by some minutes to allow me to arrive in time. I knew it would be a close call. He rejected that as was his right. My plane arrived about 10 minutes after the tour started so no way could I make it. But I was relieved that I had set up a backup plan. The following morning I arrived early and waited for the tour to begin. Then 4 French speaking guests arrived and a woman who informed me that the tour was to be in French and flippantly said they would return my money. I was very shocked and disappointed. I was also angry. I had received no notification, and they knew it because I clearly did not reply and they sent the woman to intercept before the tour started. At no time was I rude or disrespectful. All that I said was that I didn't want a refund. I wanted the tour. A few minutes later a bilingual male guide arrived, and I assumed it would be a bi-lingual tour as many are. Even if it were primarily in French with a bit of English thrown in I would have been content. But after 15 minutes of solid French and zero eye contact I got the message and just walked away. I do not remember ever having been treated so shabbily. The other 8 tours were fine, as have been scores of other previous tours. The tour owner replied that I was rude and had a sense of entitlement. He was not present, and I was never rude. But my one day in St. John's was shot.

    As an experienced traveler I expect some setbacks along the way. What I do not expect is utter disrespect and blatant unfairness. Months before my trip I signed up for 2 of these tours in English and paid for both so that if my flight arrived too late for the Saturday p.m. tour, I would have Sunday morning as an option before flying out. I wanted to make best use of my 24 hours in St John's. I communicated directly with the tour operator about this, so he understood and was onboard. He offered to charge me for just the tour I took. Fair enough. Turned out my Saturday flight was delayed so I missed that tour. No problem, I thought. I arrived early on Sunday and took photos while waiting for the tour to start. Then 4 French speaking people arrived, some of whom understood English. The tour guide who arrived was clearly fluent in both English and French. I was informed the tour would be in French because I was the only one who signed up for English. They would issue me a refund. I said I didn't want a refund. I wanted what I paid for and was guaranteed. Whatever happened to "First in Time is First in Right? I would have been content to have a bilingual tour but after 15 minutes of solid French, which I did not understand, I just walked away. He didn't even throw me a few crumbs in English. I was white hot about this. I was granted a refund. Big deal. So, beware folks. If they can treat me like that, they can do it to you too!
