    Food was one of the things I was most curious about before visiting Ethiopia, so I booked the Taste of Addis Ababa experience with Danakil Depression Tours. As a solo traveler, I found it to be a great way to discover the city because food naturally creates conversation and connection. I started with Beyaynet, which was perfect for trying several Ethiopian dishes at once. There were different vegetables, lentils, beans, sauces, and other dishes arranged around injera. Before this experience, I wasn't completely sure how to eat Ethiopian food traditionally, but my guide showed me how to use the injera and explained the different dishes. I also tried Tere Siga, which was definitely one of the more adventurous parts of the experience. We talked about the spices and traditional accompaniments, and I was glad I had the opportunity to try something completely different from what I normally eat. I also tasted Tibs and Doro Wot, along with vegetarian dishes that were full of flavor. But what stayed with me most wasn't a particular dish—it was the culture surrounding food. Sharing food from the same plate and taking time to talk made the meal feel much more social than a normal restaurant experience. The traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony was the perfect ending. Watching the preparation and enjoying the coffee slowly made me understand why coffee is such an important part of Ethiopian hospitality.

    I had an amazing time experiencing the food and culture of Addis Ababa with Danakil Depression Tours. This was much more than just eating at different places—it was a wonderful introduction to Ethiopian cuisine and the traditions behind it. I had the opportunity to try different Ethiopian dishes and experience the unique way food is shared and enjoyed together. The flavors were incredible, and I especially enjoyed discovering dishes that I probably would not have ordered by myself. Each stop gave me a different experience and helped me understand more about Ethiopian food culture. The guide from Danakil Depression Tours made the experience even better by explaining the dishes, ingredients, and traditions connected to Ethiopian cuisine. It was great to learn about the food while actually tasting it, rather than simply reading about it. Overall, I had a fantastic time and left the tour with a much greater appreciation for Ethiopian food.     Our full-day food tour in Addis Ababa was one of the most enjoyable experiences of our trip to Ethiopia. We wanted to experience Ethiopian food beyond the usual restaurant dinner, and this tour gave us the opportunity to taste different foods while also learning about the culture, traditions, and everyday life behind them. From the beginning, our guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and very welcoming. Everything was well organized, and we never felt rushed. What we especially enjoyed was that the experience was not simply about eating food—it was about understanding where the food comes from, how it is prepared, and why it is such an important part of Ethiopian culture. We started by exploring the local food scene and seeing the fresh ingredients, spices, vegetables, fruits, and other products that are commonly used in Ethiopian cooking. It was fascinating to see how much variety there is in Addis Ababa's food culture. One of the highlights was learning more about injera, the traditional Ethiopian sourdough flatbread. We had the chance to see how it is prepared and learned why injera is such an important part of Ethiopian meals. Eating Ethiopian food with injera was much more meaningful after understanding the process behind it. Throughout the day, we tasted a wonderful variety of Ethiopian dishes. We tried traditional vegetarian dishes, lentils, vegetables, different sauces and stews, tibs, and other local specialties. Every dish had its own flavor and character. The combination of spices was something completely different from what we normally eat at home. We also had the opportunity to try some Ethiopian meat dishes, and our guide explained the differences between the various preparations and how they are traditionally served. For anyone who has never tried Ethiopian food before, having a knowledgeable local guide makes a huge difference because you can ask questions and discover dishes that you might otherwise never order yourself. Another memorable part of the day was experiencing Ethiopian coffee culture. The traditional coffee ceremony was a beautiful way to finish the food experience. The smell of freshly roasted coffee, the preparation process, and the opportunity to sit down and enjoy the coffee slowly made it feel much more like a cultural experience than simply having a cup of coffee. What we appreciated most was the personal interaction with our guide. We learned about Ethiopian food, but also about Addis Ababa, Ethiopian traditions, hospitality, and everyday life. Our guide was happy to answer all our questions and gave us recommendations for other foods and places to try during the rest of our trip. The tour also gave us the chance to experience Addis Ababa from a more local perspective. Instead of simply visiting the famous tourist attractions, we were able to see markets, local neighborhoods, restaurants, and food preparation in a way that felt authentic and relaxed. By the end of the day, we were completely full but very happy! We had tasted so many different flavors that it was difficult to choose a favorite. If you are visiting Addis Ababa and enjoy food, culture, and authentic local experiences, we highly recommend doing a food tour early in your trip. It is a great introduction to Ethiopian cuisine and will make you much more confident when ordering food during the rest of your journey.     We had a fantastic full-day city and food tour of Addis Ababa with Danakil Depression Tours, and it was one of the most enjoyable days of our trip to Ethiopia. From the beginning, Mickey, the owner, was very helpful, friendly, and easy to communicate with. He made sure everything was well organized and also took the time to explain the history, culture, and everyday life of Addis Ababa rather than simply taking us from one attraction to another. The food tour was definitely one of the highlights. We had the opportunity to taste authentic Ethiopian food and experience some of the local flavors that we would probably not have discovered on our own. Trying traditional dishes, drinking Ethiopian coffee, and seeing how locals enjoy their food made the experience feel much more personal and authentic. During the city tour, we explored different parts of Addis Ababa and learned more about the city's history and culture. Mickey was very knowledgeable and happy to answer all our questions.
