Mom and I toured the Bryan Museum on a rainy Saturday, and it is just a wonderful museum. Really, we went for the building it is housed in as we love old architecture, and the building predates the 1900’s storm. We were in awe of the collection they have curated. Additionally, they had an interactive exhibit on immigration that was touring the country. It is wheelchair accessible. The grounds are gorgeous. We are taking Dad when we go back as he likes wester history.

This is one big tax write off for a rich guy. Well, I guess it’s also a place to store his art and saddle collection. Saddles everywhere! No one to talk to about the exhibits, just someone to take money. The audio guided tour is not working and there is no plan to fix it. A few interesting artifacts, but it really is someone’s private collection being held in a tax shelter disguised as a beautiful home.

Fabulous!! So much more than an art museum. This is the best I have seen in Texas for period firearms, saddles, spurs, western art, uniforms; phenomenal historical collection of the old west and Spanish heritage. Second only to one other museum of the west I have seen to date in Texas. Anyone who loves the old west will love this place for both its western art and western artifacts!! They also had a Mardi Gras custom and mask collection that my wife loved, as well as the western Art and Lady Bronc Rider display. The building alone is worth the visit- a real heritage piece of old Galveston. The displays also cover the building history as an orphanage and how all the orphans came to be - from the 1900 storm that wiped out the city. Don’t miss this place. I put it above any other attraction in Galveston.

The museum was fascinating. Loved all the historical information, the paintings and artifacts. But most especially the orphan exhibit.

A very through history of the West from the original people through the evolution of colonial powers, and recent history. Also a special exhibit on Mardi Gras. Clothing, rifles and guns, artifacts. Allow 2 hours or more. Three floors - elevators.

The saddles and the stories of the orphans. A great way to spend a rainy afternoon. Surprises around every corner.

Did not know about this interesting museum in Galveston. Located in the former Galveston Orphan Home, beautiful 19th century building, houses a great collection of history artifacts and art very nicely organized and documented. A must if you visit Galveston!
