This was an excellent trip. Our guide was briliant, very safety conscious but also funny and informative. It rained, and the visibility was poor, but we had a real feeling of being in the rain forest. It's quite tough, we were climbing up wet tree roots like a ladder (or Jack and the Beanstalk!). Our shoes and all our clothes got muddy. However, I loved it. I loved the huge buttress roots, the Tarzan-style vines and the view into the crater from the top. We were given fruit pastries and fruit juice near the top, and a sandwich and drink when we got back down. I can thoroughly recommend.

The volcano hike was amazing!
We booked through Royal Caribbean and had a great time. Royal's excursion description warned us about five times the hike was "strenuous." We did not really know what to expect, but we were all up for the challenge. Sadly, we were the only ones in our group who could keep up with the tour guide. If you have doubts you might not be fit enough, you probably are not. Plain and simple, so keep that in mind.
Anyways, our tour guide was great! Even with the lackluster group! She was very knowledgeable about the volcano, wildlife, plant life, and area. She also made it a point to help take pictures along the way while we waited for the group to catch their breath. I would love to have her again on future tours!

Rashidi was prompt in communicating the change in plans due to a tropical storm. Easy reschedule , his guide KJ did a wonderful job pacing the hike to our energy level, being moderate hikers but 57 this was a challenging hike similar in distance and grade to Ampersand in the NY Adirondack mountains. It is a challenge because of the roots and rocks that are needed to be scaled , a lot of scramble and climbing. Hiking boots, gloves , long pants are helpful. The hike is in a rainforest with canopy cover almost the whole way, it is humid , bring lots of water , we each went through 4 traditional bottles and probably could have used another bottle each, They supply snacks and juice at rest stop 6. Wonderful group to work with. Thanks Rashidi !!!! Well done

OMG!!! Do this ASAP!! The view from the top is absolutely majestic and you could not find a better guide than Mr. Rashidi Rogers. He was patient, knowledgeable and encouraging the whole way. I could not ask for a better time in hiking the volcano of my parents' birthplace. I am so grateful for the experience and my friends are already chomping at the bit to take the hike on our next trip. THANK YOU so much Rashidi and family!
