What to expect
Casco Viejo is one of the oldest and most cultural parts of Panama City. It became the second site in the city after the original site (Panama La Vieja) was destroyed by the Welsh pirate Henry Morgan in 1671. The neighborhood was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997. Today, it is an ideal place to walk and take pictures. Its cobbled streets are full of Spanish colonial buildings, ancient churches and elegant cafés.
In this museum you will see all the information about one of the ethnic groups of Panama and you will have more details of this passage of fabric from 1 to 4 layers and all its designs and finishes, more information about the Gunas in the Guna Ayala region bordering Colombia.
Casa Catedral is a theme restaurant where you can find several classic cars and among them the famous car that Theodore Roosevelt used when he visited Panama in his supervision of the work!
Iglesia Altar De Oro Incienso Para Dios
The Church of San José, located in the Casco Viejo of Panama City, houses one of the most impressive treasures in the country: the famous Golden Altar. Here is a review of this magnificent church: Built between 1671 and 1677, the Church of San José is a living testimony of the colonial history of Panama. It was ruled by the Order of the Augustinian Recollects and became one of the first churches to be completed in the ancient city, more than 348 years ago. The Golden Altar, one of the main attractions of the church, is a masterpiece of baroque art. Although it is not made of solid gold, it was made from bitter cedar wood and covered with gold leaves. Although the original coating has diminished over time, the altar continues to dazzle visitors with its splendor.
Plaza Herrera is an emblematic space that bears the name of Jos Cruz Herrera, a prominent character in Panamanian history. Surrounded by beautiful colonial buildings, the square is a perfect place to relax and enjoy the historical atmosphere. In its surroundings, you will find a wide variety of attractions and points of interest. For example, the Church of San Francisco de Asís, with its impressive architecture and rich history, is located just a few steps from the square. You can also visit the Interoceanic Canal Museum, where you can learn about the construction of the famous Panama Canal. In addition, Plaza Herrera is known for being a meeting point for cultural events and festivities. Outdoor concerts, craft fairs and other activities that reflect the cultural diversity of Panama are held here. If you are a food lover, you cannot miss the restaurants and cafes that surround the square.
