Batalha Monastery
After pick-up at your hotel we will start the day with the visit to the monastery of holy Mary of victory. This monastery, usually called Batalha, it's the Portuguese biggest gothic monument, and is also where the manueline style had born and the first Portuguese stained glasses were made. Our tour will focus not only in the architecture, which is impressive, but also in the history, and legends, of the ones that started the maritime discoveries, like Henry – the navigator, that is buried over there.
Nazare
After we will go to Nazaré beach and to the top of the cliff ( Sítio da Nazaré) where is one of the first Portuguese place of adoration to Our Lady. We will enter in the basilica of Our Lady of Nazaré to see the famous black statue of the virgin, and you will hear the legend about the miracle. The top of the cliff near where it was beaten the world record of surfing the highest wave it's a magnificent place to take pictures.
Obidos
Inside the walls of the romantic village of Óbidos, that used to belong to the Portuguese Queen, you will have the opportunity to taste the typical cherry liqueur in a small chocolate cup while walking in the streets of an ancient medieval village or you can climb to the walls of the castle to the defend your countryman from an attack of an enemy army from the middle ages.
Monastery of Alcobaca
In Royal Abbey of Alcobaça we will see the biggest Portuguese gothic church. In this monument, like the Monastery of Batalha is consider by UNESCO a world heritage site, we will admire the gothic architecture of the twelve and thirteen century, but at the same time we will talk about the influence of the order of Cister in the creation of the kingdom of Portugal. Of course it's inevitable, in front of their tombs, also to tell the tragic love story of King Pedro I – the cruel one, and his beloved - Inês de Castro, who was murdered by order of his father.
