What to expect
Largo do Carmo
This is Largo do Carmo which, if you're here in May or June, will be shaded by Jacaranda trees covered with lilac flowers.
Elevador de Santa Justa
If you pay to ride the Santa Justa elevator from the lower level, you can access the highest platform but the views you get from this upper entrance are impressive, and free!
Museu de São Roque
you can either decide to pop inside for some over-the-top decorations, or you can continue on the tour. If you go inside, I also urge you to pay close attention to the intricate mosaics and inlaid marble, as well as the azulejo-clad walls.
Church of Saint Roch
you can either decide to pop inside for some over-the-top decorations, or you can continue on the tour. If you go inside, I also urge you to pay close attention to the intricate mosaics and inlaid marble, as well as the azulejo-clad walls.
S. Pedro Alcântara
On your right is a large public square called São Pedro de Alcântara 'miradouro', or viewing spot.
Príncipe Real
This pretty little park provides a welcome patch of greenery for local residents and has a kiosk bar at either end as well as an indoor café, so you're welcome to take a walk around the park and explore further.
Pç. Flores
The tour ends at this beautiful park
National Museum of Natural History and Science
While the ground floor exhibitions are not particularly inspiring, the chance to explore the 18th century Chemistry laboratories of Lisbon University might appeal. The upper floor is full of interactive Maths and Physics exhibits and activities. You can visit either the gardens or museum separately or save money with a combined ticket.
