A Bird's-Eye View of the Cordillera Blanca

Today was all about embracing the adventurous spirit that brought us to Huascaran National Park. It's amazing how stepping outside your comfort zone can lead to some of the most unforgettable moments. From soaring through the sky to savoring the flavors of the Andes, today was a beautiful mix of adrenaline and tranquility.

Our day began, as most do, with a hearty breakfast at Cafe Andino. This charming cafe, nestled in the heart of Huaraz, has become our go-to spot for starting the day right. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingled with the sweet scent of Andean pancakes, setting the perfect tone for the adventures that awaited us. I opted for my usual, a strong Ethiopian brew – a little taste of home to fuel my day. Hans-Peter, ever the traditionalist, enjoyed his *Pan de Piso* while Lila devoured her pancakes, practically vibrating with excitement for the day ahead.

With our bellies full and spirits high, we set off for Huaraz Zipline Adventures. The drive itself was an experience, winding through the outskirts of Huaraz, with the majestic Cordillera Blanca looming ever closer. The air was crisp and cool, a refreshing change from the warmer temperatures we'd experienced earlier in our trip. I was a little nervous, I have to admit. While I love a good adventure, heights aren't exactly my forte. Hans-Peter, of course, was completely unfazed, and Lila was practically bouncing off the walls with anticipation.

Arriving at the zipline site, we were greeted by the friendly and professional staff who immediately put my worries at ease. After a thorough safety briefing and gearing up, it was time to take the plunge. The first zipline was the most daunting, a seemingly endless cable stretching across a deep canyon. Taking a deep breath, I stepped off the platform and into the void. And then… I was flying! The wind rushed past my face, and the world opened up beneath me. The views were simply breathtaking – the snow-capped peaks of the Cordillera Blanca, the lush green valleys, and the patchwork of fields below. It was an experience unlike any other, a true feast for the senses.

Lila, of course, was a natural. She zipped across the cables with the grace of a seasoned pro, laughing and cheering the whole way. Even Hans-Peter, who usually prefers more grounded activities, couldn't help but grin as he soared through the air. We spent the morning zipping across three spectacular ziplines and crossing two air bridges, each offering a unique perspective on the stunning landscape. By the end, I felt a sense of accomplishment and exhilaration I hadn't expected. It was a reminder that sometimes, the best things in life are the ones that scare you the most.

The world opens up when you dare to step outside your comfort zone.

After our exhilarating morning, we were ready for a hearty lunch. We decided to try Restaurant Chifa Polleria Guilla, a local favorite known for its delicious Chifa cuisine – a unique fusion of Chinese and Peruvian flavors. The restaurant was bustling with activity, a testament to its popularity. We ordered a variety of dishes to share, including *chaufa de pollo* (chicken fried rice), *aeropuerto* (a mix of fried rice and noodles), and *kanlu wantan* (fried wontons). The food was flavorful and satisfying, a perfect complement to our adventurous morning. It reminded me of the vibrant culinary scene in Munich, where you can find flavors from all over the world.

With our appetites sated, we decided to explore a bit more of the local area. We ventured to Antaracá, a site I'd read about that promised stunning views and a glimpse into the region's history. The hike up to Antaracá was a bit challenging, the altitude making each step a little more difficult. But the views from the top were well worth the effort. From our vantage point, we could see the entire Huaraz Valley stretching out before us, a tapestry of green fields and quaint villages. It was a moment of quiet contemplation, a chance to appreciate the beauty and grandeur of this incredible place.

As the sun began to dip below the horizon, we made our way to El Alquimista Rooftop Bar for dinner. I had heard whispers that this was the place to be as the sun went down, and it was clear that the whispers were right. This cozy spot boasts panoramic views of Huaraz, a perfect spot to relax and unwind after a day of adventure.

The rooftop bar was buzzing with a lively atmosphere, a mix of locals and tourists all eager to soak in the stunning views. We settled into a comfortable corner, ordered some drinks, and watched as the sky transformed into a canvas of vibrant colors. For dinner, we decided to indulge in the culinary delights of Wayta - El Chef Andino. Luckily, El Alquimista offered delivery from Wayta, so we were able to enjoy the best of both worlds. I opted for the *lomo saltado*, while Hans-Peter chose the *anticuchos*, and Lila, always the adventurous one, went for the *quinotto la huacaina*. The food was exquisite, a testament to the chef's skill and creativity. Each dish was a burst of flavor, a perfect blend of traditional Andean ingredients and modern culinary techniques.

As we savored our meal and watched the stars begin to twinkle above us, I couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude. This trip to Huascaran National Park has been an incredible experience, a chance to connect with nature, explore a new culture, and create lasting memories with my family. It's moments like these, surrounded by loved ones and immersed in the beauty of the world, that make life truly special.

Tomorrow, we plan to visit Mirador Tres Huancas and Callejón de Huaylas, two more must-see spots in the region. I'm excited to see what new adventures await us, what new landscapes will take our breath away. But for now, I'm content to simply soak in the magic of this moment, the stars above, the laughter of my family, and the taste of the Andes on my tongue. Perhaps we'll even find a little something special at Boutique Miracle.

Until tomorrow,
Abebech

P.S. I almost forgot! I was so busy enjoying the day that I nearly forgot to mention that I managed to leave my extra camera batteries back at our campsite. A rookie mistake, I know! Thankfully, Hans-Peter had his trusty phone camera to capture some of the incredible views. It's a good reminder that even the best-laid plans can go awry, but it's how you adapt that truly matters.

And now, if you'll excuse me, I think I'll have one last Pisco Sour before calling it a night. After all, when in Peru…
