Nature's Embrace and Spiritual Heights in Moulay Idriss

Today was a day of exploration and reflection in the Moulay Idriss region. We ventured into the serene landscapes of Bab Rmila Natural Park and soaked in the breathtaking views of the holy city. It was a day that reminded me of the simple joys of family, nature, and the importance of connecting with the local culture.

Our day began with a hearty Moroccan breakfast at Grillade Albanna. The restaurant was cozy, and the aroma of freshly baked bread and mint tea filled the air. I savored every bite of the traditional breakfast, a delightful combination of msemen, honey, and amlou, while Klaus enjoyed his coffee, and Ama happily munched on a piece of khobz. It was the perfect way to fuel up for our day of exploring.

After breakfast, we set off for Bab Rmila Natural Park. The drive to the park was scenic, with rolling hills and olive groves lining the road. As we approached the park, the landscape transformed into a lush forest, a welcome change from the arid surroundings. I was excited to immerse ourselves in nature and let Ama experience the beauty of the Moroccan countryside.

Bab Rmila Natural Park is a true gem. The park is known for its picturesque scenery, lush vegetation, and clean air. As we entered, we were greeted by the sounds of birds chirping and the gentle rustling of leaves. The air was fresh and crisp, a stark contrast to the bustling city we had left behind. We decided to take a leisurely walk along one of the many trails, hand in hand, enjoying the tranquility of the surroundings.

The park is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna. I was particularly fascinated by the variety of trees, including pine, eucalyptus, and oak. Ama was thrilled to spot a few wild rabbits hopping through the undergrowth. We even saw a stork perched high atop a tree, its long legs dangling gracefully. The park truly felt like a sanctuary, a place where nature thrived undisturbed.

In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks.

We found a shaded picnic spot and spread out our blanket. I had packed some sandwiches, fruits, and snacks for a light lunch. As we ate, we admired the panoramic views of the surrounding hills and valleys. Ama was in her element, running around and playing with fallen leaves. It was a simple yet perfect moment, one that I knew we would cherish for years to come.

After our picnic, we continued our exploration of the park. We stumbled upon a small stream, its crystal-clear water flowing gently over smooth stones. Ama couldn't resist dipping her toes in the cool water, giggling with delight. Klaus and I joined her, and we spent a few minutes splashing around and enjoying the refreshing coolness.

As the afternoon wore on, we decided to head back to Moulay Idriss. Our next stop was the Small Terasse, known for its stunning views of the mosque. The terrace was easy to find, nestled in the heart of the town. As we stepped onto the terrace, we were immediately captivated by the breathtaking panorama.

The view of the mosque was simply magnificent. Its intricate architecture and vibrant green tiles stood out against the backdrop of the town's whitewashed buildings. The minaret, with its unique cylindrical shape, added to the mosque's charm. I felt a sense of awe and reverence as I gazed upon this sacred place.

We spent a few moments in quiet contemplation, soaking in the spiritual atmosphere. Ama, ever curious, peppered us with questions about the mosque and its significance. We did our best to explain the importance of Islam in Moroccan culture, hoping to instill in her a sense of respect and understanding. It's important to me that Ama understands her Ghanaian heritage, but also the culture of every place we visit. I want her to be a global citizen.

Before dinner, we took a stroll through the زيارة باب مولاي إدريس. The shop was filled with an array of local crafts, textiles, and souvenirs. I was particularly drawn to the handwoven carpets and intricate pottery. We picked up a few small trinkets to remember our trip, including a colorful tagine for our kitchen back in Potsdam.

For dinner, we chose Haytam, a restaurant known for its traditional Moroccan cuisine. The restaurant was cozy and inviting, with warm lighting and traditional decor. We ordered a tagine and some couscous, eager to savor the flavors of Morocco once more. The food was delicious, a perfect blend of spices and aromas. Ama particularly enjoyed the couscous, devouring it with gusto. Klaus and I enjoyed the tagine, savoring every bite of the tender meat and flavorful vegetables.

As the day drew to a close, I reflected on our experiences. We had explored the natural beauty of Bab Rmila Natural Park, soaked in the spiritual views of Moulay Idriss, and indulged in the local culture and cuisine. It was a day filled with simple joys, family bonding, and cultural immersion.

Tomorrow, we plan to visit the Mausoleum of al-Hadi ben Issa and Le portail de Moulay Ismaïl. I am excited to delve deeper into the history and spirituality of this fascinating region. I also noticed Dar Zerhoune is listed as a bar for tomorrow, which sounds like it could be fun. Maybe Klaus and I can sneak away for a bit after Ama goes to sleep!

As we prepare for another day of exploration, I am grateful for the opportunity to share these experiences with my family. Morocco continues to surprise and delight us, and I am eager to see what tomorrow brings.

The weather forecast for tomorrow predicts similar conditions to today, with temperatures ranging from 12°C to 25°C and a chance of rain showers. I'll be sure to pack our umbrellas and light jackets, just in case.
