Family Adventure in the Majestic Todra Gorge

A Day of Exploration and Serenity

Today was a beautiful blend of dramatic landscapes and peaceful retreats. We ventured into the Gorges Dadès, explored the tranquil Toudgha essoufla park, and savored the local cuisine at various delightful restaurants. It was a day filled with awe-inspiring sights and cherished family moments.

Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Hôtel et restaurant La Vallée des Kasbahs. The spread was fantastic, offering a mix of traditional Moroccan fare and continental options. Omar, of course, made a beeline for the pastries, while Lena enjoyed the fresh fruit. I savored the traditional mint tea, a perfect start to the day. The hotel itself was lovely, and I made a mental note to consider staying there on future trips, especially given its proximity to the gorges.

Fuelled and ready, we set off to explore the Gorges Dadès. The drive there was an adventure in itself, with the landscape transforming into a dramatic display of towering cliffs and winding roads. The geological formations were simply breathtaking, and I couldn't resist stopping every few minutes to capture the scenery with my camera. Lena and Omar were equally captivated, and we spent a good hour just marveling at the sheer scale and beauty of the gorge.

As we drove deeper into the Gorges Dadès, I couldn't help but think of my home in Al-Karak. While the landscapes are different, the feeling of being surrounded by such raw, natural beauty stirred a sense of connection to my roots. It's a reminder that no matter where I go, a part of me will always be grounded in the landscapes of my homeland.

After our exploration of the gorges, we decided to visit Toudgha essoufla park. This park offered a welcome contrast to the ruggedness of the Dadès. It was a serene oasis, with lush greenery, vibrant flowers, and the soothing sounds of nature. Omar loved running around the open spaces, and Lena and I enjoyed a leisurely stroll along the well-maintained pathways. We found a charming bench under a shaded area and simply sat there, soaking in the tranquility. It was the perfect spot for some quiet reflection and a chance to recharge after our adventurous morning.

For lunch, we stopped at CAFE RESTAURANT JANNAT tinghir. This place was a culinary oasis ! The ambiance was inviting, and the menu offered a wide range of traditional Moroccan dishes. We ordered a tagine and some couscous, and both were absolutely delicious. The flavors were rich and authentic, and the presentation was beautiful. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home. It was more than just a meal; it was an experience.

In the late afternoon, we decided to indulge in some local flavors at Restaurant La Petite Gorge. Although it was technically a bar, it offered a delightful array of snacks and drinks, perfect for an afternoon treat. We sat on the terrace, enjoying the stunning views of the Todra Gorge while sipping on some refreshing mint tea. The atmosphere was relaxed and convivial, and we struck up a conversation with some fellow travelers, sharing stories and travel tips.

For dinner, we opted for Restaurant SIMPLE. The name might suggest simplicity, but the flavors were anything but ! This restaurant was a true culinary gem, offering a cozy atmosphere and a menu brimming with Moroccan delicacies. We savored every bite, appreciating the fresh, locally sourced ingredients and the skillful preparation. It was the perfect end to a day of exploration and indulgence.

As the day drew to a close, I found myself reflecting on the incredible experiences we had. From the dramatic landscapes of the Gorges Dadès to the tranquil beauty of Toudgha essoufla park, every moment was filled with wonder and joy. And the delicious Moroccan cuisine we enjoyed along the way only added to the richness of the experience.

Tomorrow, we're planning to explore Aventures Verticales Maroc and Toudgha Tinghir. I'm particularly excited about Aventures Verticales Maroc, as I've heard it offers some incredible climbing and hiking opportunities. It will be a chance to get active and experience the Todra Gorge from a different perspective. I am also looking forward to trying Aghroum Akhebaz for breakfast, Family el mabrouk for lunch, and Restaurant Rajja Fi Allah for dinner. Maybe we'll even pop into Noor boutique for a bit of shopping. I am sure Lena would appreciate that!

But for now, it's time to rest and recharge. Another day of adventure awaits, and I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings. Traveling with family is always an adventure, and I am so grateful for these moments of shared discovery and connection.

I also realized today that I forgot to pack a travel guidebook. I made a mental note to get one tomorrow when we visit Noor boutique. It would be nice to have some offline information about the places we are visiting.

The summer heat in Morocco is definitely something to be aware of. Staying hydrated is so important, and I am glad we brought our reusable water bottles. I am also glad that we packed sunscreen, as the sun can be quite intense, especially when hiking in the gorges. I think I will also get a hat tomorrow, just in case!

As I sit here, writing this blog post, I can hear the faint sounds of Berber music in the distance. It's a soothing melody that perfectly captures the spirit of this magical place. I am so grateful for the opportunity to experience this with my family, and I can't wait to share more of our adventures with you all.
