Explore Elmina's cultural sites, relax on Hallelujah Beach, and savor local cuisine with family on our third day in Ghana.
Discovering Elmina's Soul
Today was a beautiful blend of history, culture, and relaxation here in Elmina. It's amazing how much a single day can offer when you're open to exploring. We dove headfirst into the heart of this vibrant town, eager to soak up every bit of its essence. From historical sites to serene beaches, Elmina has truly captured my heart.
Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Pat Spot. I opted for some local fare – a flavorful porridge that was both comforting and energizing. Priya and Devon went for something a bit more familiar, but they definitely sampled my breakfast and enjoyed it. Properly fueled, we set off to explore Ahomka Fie.

Ahomka Fie turned out to be a fascinating experience. The structure itself is a testament to Elmina's complex past, originally built for trade and defense. Standing within its walls, I couldn't help but reflect on the historical weight of the place. Devon, surprisingly, was quite engaged, asking lots of questions about the people who lived and worked there. It’s important for him to understand these things, to connect with the history that has shaped our world. Priya and I appreciated the architecture and the views of the Atlantic Ocean.
Sometimes, the most profound experiences come from simply being present and open to what a place has to offer.
After our historical immersion, we decided to switch gears and head to Hallelujah Beach.
Experience the tranquility and natural beauty of Hallelujah Beach in Kormantse, a hidden gem perfect for relaxation and adventure.
The name itself was enticing, and the reality didn't disappoint. Getting there involved a short tro-tro ride towards Cape Coast, which was an experience in itself. The vibrant energy of the local transport, the music, and the chatter – it's all part of the adventure. Once we arrived, the beach was a welcome sight. The golden sands and the sound of the waves were instantly calming. Devon was thrilled, running straight for the water. Priya and I found a shady spot under a palm tree and simply relaxed, watching Devon build sandcastles and splash in the waves.
We spent a good few hours at Hallelujah Beach, soaking up the sun and enjoying the refreshing sea breeze. For lunch, we decided to try Araba Chop Bar.

It was a fantastic choice. The restaurant was bustling with locals, and the air was filled with the aromas of delicious Ghanaian dishes. I ordered some fufu with groundnut soup, while Priya tried the jollof rice. Devon, ever the adventurous one, opted for banku with tilapia. Everything was bursting with flavor, and we all left feeling incredibly satisfied.
In the afternoon, Priya wanted to do some shopping, so we headed to Pee & Ma Paradise Boutique.

It was a small but well-stocked shop with a variety of local crafts and clothing. Priya picked up a beautiful batik dress, and Devon found a cool, hand-carved wooden toy. I even managed to find a new lens cap for my camera, which I had forgotten to pack.
As the day drew to a close, we had dinner at G. & I. Spot.

It was a more laid-back affair, with simple but tasty grilled fish and some local beer. We sat outside, enjoying the cool evening air and reflecting on the day's adventures. Devon was already fast asleep, exhausted from his beach escapades. Priya and I talked about our favorite moments and planned for tomorrow's trip to Jubilee Park and Coconut Grove Bridgehouse in Cape Coast. I'm particularly excited to see Jubilee Park, as I've read it's a great place to learn more about the local history and culture.
Elmina continues to surprise me with its depth and beauty. It's a place where history and culture come alive, where the warmth of the people is as radiant as the sun. I'm grateful for the experiences we've had today and excited for what tomorrow will bring.
Tomorrow, we're heading to Cape Coast. We plan to visit Jubilee Park and the Coconut Grove Bridgehouse. I'm hoping to delve even deeper into the history of this region and perhaps find some more unique souvenirs. I’m also looking forward to trying some new restaurants. I've heard Mabel's Table is a great spot for breakfast, and Anomansa Restaurant is supposed to have amazing local dishes for lunch. And who knows, maybe we'll even end up at Ngwa Night Club , though that might be a bit too late for Devon!
I am also thinking about my experience so far and I can’t help but think of the items that I forgot to pack ! I really wish I had remembered the insect repellent and a travel guidebook.
Elmina is truly a special place, and I'm so glad I'm here with my family to experience it all.
