Exploring the Cultural Heritage of Elmina with Family
Day 4: A Day of Parks, Bridges, and Beats in Elmina
Exploring Cape Coast's Jubilee Park, the unique Coconut Grove Bridgehouse, and Elmina's vibrant nightlife with family and friends.
Saturday's Serendipitous Discoveries
Today was a day of unexpected delights and cultural immersion. We started our day in Cape Coast, ventured through unique architectural wonders, and ended it with the vibrant nightlife Elmina had to offer. It’s amazing how much you can pack into a single day when you’re open to adventure!
Our morning began with a hearty breakfast at Mabel's Table. Priya and Devon were particularly excited about trying some authentic Ghanaian dishes. I stuck with my usual coffee to get the day started. Fuelled up, we set off for Cape Coast, eager to explore Jubilee Park, Cape Coast.
The drive to Cape Coast was scenic, with the landscape transforming into a lush, green paradise. Jubilee Park was a breath of fresh air. The park wasn't trying too hard to be flashy; instead, it felt inviting and perfect for a slow afternoon. Devon immediately ran off to explore, his energy boundless. Priya and I took a leisurely stroll, admiring the vibrant flowers and the well-maintained pathways. We learned about the park's history, a tribute to important figures and events in Ghana’s past. It was a peaceful escape from the bustling city, a place where you could hear yourself think.
Sometimes, the most profound experiences come from simply slowing down and appreciating the beauty around us.
After spending a couple of hours soaking in the tranquility of Jubilee Park, we decided to head back towards Elmina, with our next stop being the Coconut Grove Bridgehouse.

This place was truly unique. Situated by the ocean, the Coconut Grove Bridge House offered a tranquil retreat. The architecture was fascinating, built with stones used in the original structure from centuries ago. Devon was intrigued by the fact that it was located directly opposite the Elmina Castle. We savored fresh flavors at the on-site restaurant, enjoying the ocean view.
For lunch, we stopped at Anomansa Restaurant. Located near Elmina Castle, it provided a culinary journey into Ghana’s rich culture. The restaurant had a setting that felt like eating in the 1800s, which was awesome. We enjoyed the signature dishes made from locally sourced ingredients. The atmosphere was enhanced by the views of the surrounding landscape. I decided to try the grilled tilapia, while Priya enjoyed some jollof rice. Devon, ever the adventurous eater, tried the chicken wings with Ghana man sauce.
As the sun began to set, we made our way back to Elmina, ready to experience the nightlife. After dropping Devon off at the hotel with Priya, I decided to check out Ngwa Night Club.

It was my chance to unwind and immerse myself in the local scene. As I stepped into the club, I was greeted by the pulsating rhythms of music and the friendly smiles of the staff. The club attracted a diverse crowd, from locals to tourists, all eager to enjoy the night. I met some interesting people and even tried a few local brews. The vibrant decor and lively atmosphere made it easy to relax and soak up the local vibe. I even managed to show off a few of my Trinidadian dance moves, much to the amusement of my new friends.
It was interesting to see how the local government is planning to boost tourism in the country, launching initiatives such as the Ghana Tourism Marketplace and the Ghana Tourism Investment Platform. These platforms aim to connect businesses and showcase tourism destinations across Ghana, hopefully attracting more investment and improving infrastructure. It's great to see efforts being made to promote Ghana's rich culture and beautiful sites.
Tomorrow, we are planning to visit ROWAN and Antonio Garden [Parks]. I'm looking forward to more exploration and cultural immersion. I'm also excited to try out some new restaurants, such as African Pot for breakfast, Gramsddel J Restaurant for lunch, and One Africa Health Resort for dinner [Parks]. It’s been an incredible journey so far, and I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.
Elmina continues to surprise and delight me with its blend of history, culture, and vibrant energy. I am so happy I get to experience it with my family, creating memories that we will cherish for a lifetime. From the serene parks to the lively nightlife, Elmina has something for everyone.
Before I turn in for the night, I realize that I still haven't bought a travel guidebook, which I had on my list of forgotten essentials. I will make sure to get one tomorrow. I also realize that I haven't had a chance to use my camera as much as I wanted to. I will make sure to capture more memories tomorrow.
Good night from Elmina!
