Sunset Hues and Historical Whispers

Today was a day of soaking in the serene beauty and rich history of Hoi An. It was a perfect blend of natural wonders and cultural exploration, creating memories that I know our family will cherish for years to come. From the moment we stepped out, there was a sense of anticipation for the day ahead, and Hoi An certainly didn't disappoint.

The day began with a hearty breakfast at Circle Restaurant | Hoi An Burgers and Tacos by Circle Cafe. It might seem odd to start our day in Vietnam with burgers and tacos, but Saoirse was thrilled, and Hans and I were happy to indulge her. I opted for the veggie burger, and it was surprisingly delicious. Hans went for the bacon avocado burger. Saoirse had a Juicy Lucy burger. Fuelled up, we were ready to explore. I must admit, finding a little taste of home comforts always sets us up for a day of adventure.

Our first stop was the Diep Dong Nguyen House. This ancient house, with its well-preserved architecture, offered a fascinating glimpse into Hoi An's past. Built in the late 19th century, it was once the home of a Chinese merchant and has since been transformed into a museum. As we wandered through the rooms, we were transported back in time, imagining what life must have been like for the family who once lived here. The house is filled with antiques, including ceramics, furniture, and photographs, each telling a story of Hoi An's rich cultural heritage. Saoirse was particularly fascinated by the collection of old coins, while Hans was intrigued by the traditional Chinese medicine paraphernalia. I found myself drawn to the black and white photographs, imagining the stories behind the faces. It's amazing how these old houses stand as silent witnesses to the passage of time. The wooden facade of the house, devoid of windows, was particularly striking. It felt like stepping into a different world, far removed from the bustling streets outside. I was particularly moved by the family's dedication to preserving their heritage; it felt like they were sharing a piece of their soul with us. The Diep Dong Nguyen house is more than just a tourist attraction; it's a living testament to the enduring spirit of Hoi An.

For lunch, we decided to try HOME Hoi An - HOME Vietnamese Restaurant. The restaurant is located in the heart of the town. The restaurant had an elegant dining space. We enjoyed a variety of Vietnamese dishes, each bursting with fresh flavors and aromatic spices. I opted for the Cao Lau, a local specialty, while Hans tried the Mi Quang, another regional favorite. Saoirse, ever adventurous, surprised us by ordering the Banh Xeo, a savory crepe filled with shrimp, pork, and bean sprouts. Every dish was a culinary delight, a testament to the skill and passion of the chefs. As we savored each bite, we couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to experience the authentic flavors of Vietnam. The restaurant was close to the Hoi An Night Market.

As the day drew to a close, we made our way to a sunset viewpoint. I had heard about the Cua Dai Bridge. We found a quiet spot along the Thu Bon River. As the sun began its descent, the sky transformed into a canvas of vibrant hues. The river mirrored the colors above, creating a breathtaking spectacle. It was a moment of pure magic, a reminder of the simple beauty that surrounds us. We watched as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the ancient town. The lanterns began to twinkle, adding to the enchanting atmosphere. It was the perfect way to end our day of exploration, a moment of tranquility and reflection. I took a few photos, trying to capture the scene, but no image could truly convey the beauty of that moment. It was something to be experienced, to be felt, to be etched in our memories forever. It was a reminder of the beauty that exists in the world, if only we take the time to notice it.

Before heading back to Hadana Boutique Resort Hoi An, we stopped by Hoi An T/T Cocktail Bar, Coffee & Antiques for a nightcap. The bar had a warm atmosphere. The bar is in a historic building. The owners were friendly. I enjoyed a cocktail, while Hans had a local beer, and Saoirse sipped on a refreshing juice. It was the perfect way to end our day, a moment of relaxation and camaraderie. I opted for an egg espresso martini. The courtyard setting added to the relaxed vibe.

As I sit here now, reflecting on the day, I can't help but feel a sense of gratitude for the experiences we've shared as a family.
