Coastal Charms and Culinary Delights

Today was a day of wandering through Iceland's hidden gems, a tapestry woven with quaint towns, delightful meals, and artistic inspiration. It's amazing how much you can discover when you allow yourself to simply be present and soak in the atmosphere of a new place.

The day began with a hearty breakfast at Café Riis Hólmavík - Restaurant - Pizzeria & Bar. The cozy atmosphere was a welcome start, and I savored every bite, knowing I needed the energy for the day's adventures. It was a charming spot, a real community hub, and I could see why it was so popular. Apparently, they are known for their pizzas, maybe I'll try one next time I'm in the area.

With a full stomach and a sense of excitement, I set out to explore the town of Hólmavík. The drive itself was a treat, with stunning coastal views that stretched as far as the eye could see. I made a brief stop at Kertahúsið Candle House in Ísafjörður, a delightful shop filled with handcrafted candles. Each candle was a work of art, reflecting Iceland's natural beauty. I even considered participating in one of their candle-making workshops, but decided to keep moving.

Sometimes, the most memorable moments are found in the unplanned detours and unexpected discoveries.

Lunch was at Faktorshus in Haestikaupstadur , a restaurant with a warm and inviting atmosphere. I decided to try one of their seasonal dishes, which featured fresh seafood. It was a culinary delight, and I savored every bite while enjoying the rustic decor and stunning views outside. The staff was friendly and shared insights into the dish's origins, enhancing the overall dining experience.

After lunch, I continued my journey, eager to see what else the Westfjords had in store. The landscape was breathtaking, with dramatic cliffs, rugged coastlines, and rolling hills. I stopped frequently to capture the scenery with my camera, trying to preserve the beauty of this untouched wilderness. I thought of Liam back in Banff, managing the brewery, and wished he could see this with me. He'd love the ruggedness and the sheer, untamed beauty of it all.

As the day drew to a close, I found myself in Bolungarvík, where I had dinner at Einarshusid. The restaurant had a historic feel, housed in a restored wooden building over a century old. I opted for one of their traditional Icelandic dishes, which was simple yet delicious. The staff was welcoming, and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. It seems like the place has quite a history, having been owned by some of the town's pioneers.

Tomorrow, I plan to continue my exploration of the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve , hoping to capture more of its stunning landscapes and abundant wildlife. I've heard whispers of the Arctic foxes that roam these lands, and I'm eager to catch a glimpse of these elusive creatures. I'll be having breakfast at Hamraborg ehf, lunch at Stúkuhúsið, and dinner at Siver kebab. Maybe I'll even find time to stop by the Hornstrandir bar.

As I reflect on the day, I'm filled with a sense of gratitude for the opportunity to experience Iceland's beauty and charm. It's a place that captivates the soul and inspires creativity, and I'm eager to see what tomorrow brings. The rugged beauty of Hornstrandir is starting to feel like a second home, a place where I can truly connect with nature and find inspiration for my photography.

Even though I'm traveling solo, I never feel alone. The warmth and hospitality of the Icelandic people make me feel welcome wherever I go. It's a reminder that sometimes, the best travel experiences are the ones where you immerse yourself in the local culture and connect with the people who call it home. I'm excited for another day of exploration and discovery in this magical land.

It's funny the things you miss when you're away from home. I found myself thinking about our little cabin in Banff, the scent of pine, and Liam's hearty laugh. I even missed the familiar faces at the brewery. But then I look around at the breathtaking scenery of Iceland, and I know that this adventure is exactly what I need right now. A chance to recharge, reconnect with nature, and find new inspiration for my work. And who knows, maybe I'll even bring back a few new beer ideas for Liam! Perhaps something with wild Icelandic berries.

This trip is more than just a photography expedition; it's a journey of self-discovery. It's a chance to push myself beyond my comfort zone, to embrace the unknown, and to see the world through a different lens. And as I drift off to sleep tonight, I can't help but feel grateful for every moment of this incredible adventure. I consider myself incredibly lucky to be able to experience this trip solo, as I embrace the solitude and the freedom it brings. I'm also grateful for Liam's support, even from afar. His belief in me and my work gives me the courage to pursue my dreams, no matter where they may lead.
