Sacred Views and Savory Moments in Moulay Idriss
Today in Moulay Idriss was nothing short of magical. The air was thick with the scent of spices and the sound of calls to prayer, creating an atmosphere that was both intoxicating and deeply spiritual. Spending the day with my friends, exploring this holy city, felt like stepping back in time. It's days like these that remind me why I started 'Tango & Travel' in the first place – to share these immersive experiences with all of you.
Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Restaurant Moulay Idriss. I opted for a traditional Moroccan breakfast, complete with fresh bread, olives, and a steaming pot of mint tea. The tea, sweet and fragrant, was the perfect start to a day of exploration. It reminded me of brewing mate back home, a comforting ritual that always sets the right tone for the day. We sat outside, soaking in the morning sun and planning our itinerary.
First on our list was Lahdim Square. As we arrived, the square was already bustling with activity. Locals were setting up their stalls, vendors were hawking their wares, and the air was filled with the sounds of chatter and laughter. The square is framed by stunning architecture, offering a glimpse into the city's imperial past. I couldn't resist snapping a few photos, trying to capture the vibrant energy of the place. It was a feast for the senses, much like the lively markets I used to visit with my abuela in Jujuy.

We wandered through the square, admiring the traditional crafts and sampling some of the local delicacies. I tried a date-filled pastry that was simply divine, its sweetness perfectly balanced by the subtle spice of cinnamon. My friends, always up for an adventure, sampled some of the more exotic offerings, including a spicy harissa paste that left them reaching for their water bottles. It reminded me of the time Lena tried my homemade chimichurri sauce and thought her mouth was on fire!
Next, we made our way to the Small Terasse (view on the mosque) for a view of the mosque. The climb was a bit steep, but the view was well worth the effort. From our vantage point, we could see the entire city spread out before us, a tapestry of rooftops and minarets bathed in the warm afternoon light. The mosque, with its intricate architectural details, was particularly stunning. It was a moment of serenity, a chance to reflect on the beauty of this place and the richness of its history.

The beauty of Moulay Idriss lies not just in its stunning vistas, but in the warmth and authenticity of its people.
For lunch, we decided to try Roman City. The restaurant, recommended by a local we met in Lahdim Square, promised an authentic Moroccan dining experience, and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the aroma of spices filled the air. We ordered a variety of dishes, including tagine, couscous, and a selection of salads. Each dish was a burst of flavor, a testament to the skill and passion of the chefs. The tagine, slow-cooked and infused with herbs and spices, was particularly memorable. It reminded me of the stews my mother used to make back in Argentina, comforting and full of love.

After lunch, we decided to indulge in a bit of relaxation at DAR INES MOULAY IDRISS ZERHOUN. While primarily a guesthouse, it also functions as a bar, offering a tranquil spot to unwind with a refreshing drink. We sipped on mint tea, enjoying the cool breeze and the stunning views of the surrounding landscape. It was the perfect way to escape the afternoon heat and recharge our batteries before continuing our exploration.

As evening approached, we made our way to La Baraka for dinner. This restaurant, known for its traditional Moroccan cuisine, was the perfect place to end our day. The atmosphere was cozy and intimate, and the staff was incredibly welcoming. We ordered a feast of local specialties, including grilled meats, fragrant couscous, and a variety of flavorful side dishes. The food was delicious, but it was the company that made the evening truly special. Sharing stories and laughter with my friends, under the starlit Moroccan sky, was a moment I will cherish forever.

Tomorrow, we plan to visit the Mausoleum of al-Hadi ben Issa and Dar Moulay Idriss. I am particularly looking forward to the mausoleum, as it is a significant historical and cultural site in Moulay Idriss. I'm also excited to explore Dar Moulay Idriss, hoping to learn more about the history and traditions of this sacred city. We'll start the day with breakfast at SCORPION HOUSE before heading out to explore. For lunch, we're planning to try Cafe restaurant ain zwawk مقهى و مطعم عين زواوق, and for dinner, we've made reservations at Al Andaloussiya Diyafa. We might also pop into the shop, زيارة باب مولاي إدريس, to pick up some souvenirs.

As I reflect on our day, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to experience this magical place with my friends. Looking back on today, I realize how much this trip is about connecting with history. Visiting these sites with friends adds a layer of shared experience that enhances the journey. It’s not just about seeing new places, but about creating lasting memories together. As we prepare for our final days in Morocco, I’m reminded of the importance of embracing every moment and savoring every flavor. This journey has been a reminder of the beauty that exists in the world and the joy of sharing it with those you love. As I drift off to sleep, I’m already dreaming of the adventures that await us tomorrow. I hope you’ll join me as we continue to explore the wonders of Morocco. ¡Buenas noches!
And as I sit here, sipping on some mint tea, I can’t help but think about what tomorrow holds. The Mausoleum of al-Hadi ben Issa is supposed to be breathtaking, and I’m eager to see it with my own eyes. Plus, I’ve heard that Dar Moulay Idriss offers a fascinating glimpse into the town’s history, so that’s definitely on the agenda. After breakfast at SCORPION HOUSE, we’re planning to hit up Cafe restaurant ain zwawk مقهى و مطعم عين زواوق for lunch, and then Al Andaloussiya Diyafa for dinner. Who knows, we might even squeeze in a visit to the shop, زيارة باب مولاي إدريس, to pick up some souvenirs for Mateo and Lena. The thought of bringing a piece of Morocco back to Berlin fills me with warmth. It’s these little connections that make traveling so meaningful, bridging the gap between different cultures and creating a sense of global community. As I close my eyes, I’m filled with anticipation for the adventures that await us tomorrow. Until then, ¡adiós amigos!
