Whispers of Faith and Hidden Treasures

Today, in the heart of Morocco's Moulay Idriss region, I embarked on a journey that transcended mere sightseeing. It was a day of spiritual reflection, cultural immersion, and the discovery of hidden gems that whispered stories of a rich past and vibrant present. Traveling with friends always adds an extra layer of joy to these adventures, and today was no exception.

Our day began with a delightful breakfast at Al Andaloussiya Diyafa. The traditional Moroccan house exuded charm, and the panoramic views of Volubilis from the terrace were simply breathtaking. The air-conditioned room provided a welcome escape from the August heat, and the staff made us feel right at home. We savored each bite, appreciating the blend of flavors and spices that make Moroccan cuisine so unique. I made a mental note to try and recreate some of these dishes back in Berlin, perhaps adding a bit of Argentinian flair to them. Lena would surely appreciate that.

Fueled by a hearty breakfast, we set out to explore Dar Ines Moulay Idriss Zerhoun. This guesthouse, recently renovated, offered stunning views of the mountains. The architecture was a celebration of Moroccan beauty, with every corner designed with historical thoughts. The labyrinthine structure of the house gave it an original look in Moroccan architectural art.

In Moulay Idriss, every corner tells a story, every face reflects a tradition, and every moment is a step closer to understanding the soul of Morocco.

Next on our itinerary was Place Moulay Hassan. This bustling square is the vibrant centerpiece of Moulay Idriss, a gathering place for locals and tourists alike. Surrounded by historic architecture, the square was dotted with charming cafes and artisan shops. The atmosphere was lively, accentuated by the sounds of street performers and musicians. I couldn't resist capturing the scene with my camera, trying to frame the essence of Moroccan life in a single shot. Maybe Mateo would like to see the pictures when I get back to Berlin.

For lunch, we ventured to Grillade Albanna. Known for its Mediterranean and Moroccan cuisines, this restaurant did not disappoint. The kefta was nicely cooked, and the Mediterranean flavors danced on my palate. The atmosphere was lively and inviting, making it a perfect spot to recharge before continuing our explorations. I made a mental note to try their chicken salads and eggplant salad next time.

In the afternoon, we visited The Anou Cooperative. This award-winning fair-trade store connects over 600 artisan weavers directly to a digital marketplace. As someone passionate about community building and sustainable living, I was incredibly inspired by their mission. I spent hours browsing the vibrant displays of rugs, textiles, and crafts, each piece telling a unique story of its creator. I ended up buying a beautiful rug for our living room in Berlin, a reminder of the vibrant culture we experienced here.

As the sun began to set, we made our way to Volubilis Restaurant for dinner. While the luxurious staff couldn't quite salvage the evening, the relaxed atmosphere was still a pleasant experience. It was a moment to reflect on the day's adventures and share our favorite memories with my friends. We talked about the contrasts between the quiet spirituality of Moulay Idriss and the bustling energy of Berlin, finding common ground in the shared human experiences.

Tomorrow, we plan to explore Lahdim Square and Small Terasse, hoping to capture more of Moulay Idriss's unique charm. We'll also be dining at Restaurant Moulay Idriss for breakfast, Roman City for lunch, and La Baraka for dinner. A bar stop at DAR INES MOULAY IDRISS ZERHOUN is on the cards too.
