Blue Hues and Friday Views

Today was all about immersing myself in the heart of Chefchaouen. I woke up eager to explore every nook and cranny of this blue-washed city. I wanted to lose myself in its vibrant culture, capture its unique beauty through my lens, and simply soak in the atmosphere that makes this place so special. It was a day of delightful discoveries, and I can’t wait to share it all.

My day began with breakfast at RESTAURANT CASA ANDALUZ. The morning air was crisp and cool, a welcome change from the midday heat I've been experiencing. Sitting on the terrace, I enjoyed a traditional Moroccan breakfast of bread, olives, and mint tea. The view of the blue city stretching out before me was simply breathtaking. It’s moments like these that make me feel so grateful for the opportunity to travel and experience different cultures. Sipping my tea, I watched as the city slowly came to life, the sounds of the medina gradually filling the air.

After breakfast, I decided to start my exploration at Bab Chaouen. As I approached, the intricate details of the gate stood out, a testament to the city's rich history. The Rif Mountains provided a stunning backdrop, making the scene picture-perfect. I wandered through the narrow, winding streets, each turn revealing a new shade of blue. The play of light and shadow on the walls created a mesmerizing effect, making it hard to put my camera down. I’m always amazed by how a simple color can transform an entire city into a work of art.

As I strolled, I couldn't help but think about Hans and Sofia back in Bonn. I imagined Sofia's eyes widening at the sight of all the blue, and Hans's quiet appreciation for the historical significance of the city. I miss them dearly, but I know they're cheering me on from afar.

To travel is to take a journey into yourself.

Next on my list was Darb Limoun, a vibrant heart of Chefchaouen. The streets were bustling with activity, locals going about their daily routines, and tourists like myself, eager to capture the essence of this unique place. I explored the small shops selling handmade goods, from woven textiles to intricate pottery. I picked up a few souvenirs, a small tagine for Sofia and a beautifully crafted ceramic bowl for our kitchen back home. It’s always a joy to bring back a piece of the places I visit.

For lunch, I chose Restaurant Ali Baba, drawn in by its inviting atmosphere and the promise of traditional Moroccan cuisine. I ordered a vegetarian tagine, filled with fresh vegetables and aromatic spices. As a librarian specializing in historical archives, I always appreciate how food can tell a story, reflecting the history and culture of a place. This tagine was no exception, each bite a taste of Morocco's culinary heritage. The restaurant was cozy, and the staff were incredibly welcoming, adding to the overall charm of the experience.

After lunch, I decided to indulge in a little shopping at Hibart Souvenirs Shop. The shop was filled with an array of handcrafted Moroccan treasures. I was particularly drawn to the intricate woodwork and the vibrant textiles. I ended up buying a beautiful wooden box, perfect for storing my travel mementos, and a colorful scarf, a reminder of the lively atmosphere of Chefchaouen. The shop owner was incredibly friendly, sharing stories about the artisans and the history behind each piece. It’s these personal connections that make traveling so rewarding.

As I browsed through the shop, I couldn't resist thinking about my library back in Bonn. I imagined adding a section on Moroccan history and culture, filled with photographs and stories from my travels. It would be a way to share my experiences with the community and inspire others to explore the world.

As evening approached, I made my way to Restaurant Morisco for dinner. The restaurant had a lovely ambiance, with soft lighting and traditional Moroccan décor. I ordered a seafood platter, eager to taste the local flavors. The food was delicious, and the service was impeccable. I savored each bite, reflecting on the day's adventures. The restaurant was filled with a mix of locals and tourists, creating a lively and convivial atmosphere.

After dinner, I took one last stroll through the medina. The city was quieter now, the blue walls glowing softly under the moonlight. The air was filled with the scent of spices and the sound of distant music. It was a magical moment, a perfect ending to a perfect day. I paused for a moment, taking it all in, feeling grateful for the opportunity to experience this enchanting city.

Tomorrow, I plan to visit Bab El Hammar and Boulevard Mohamed V. I'm looking forward to discovering more hidden gems and capturing more of Chefchaouen's unique beauty. I also plan to visit BILMOS for a drink, a perfect way to unwind after a day of exploring. I’m excited to see what new adventures tomorrow will bring.

As I walked back to Maison D'hôtes Afassi, I couldn't help but feel a sense of contentment. Chefchaouen had captured my heart with its blue-washed streets, its vibrant culture, and its warm hospitality. It was a day I would cherish forever, a reminder of the beauty and wonder that exists in the world.
