Today was a day of pure, unadulterated natural beauty here in Gran Paradiso National Park. Leaving the historical archives of Bonn behind for a while, I embraced the fresh mountain air with Hans and Sofia, ready to explore the wonders Cogne had to offer. It was a day filled with the soothing sounds of cascading water, the gentle rustling of leaves, and the shared joy of family adventure.

Our day began with a delightful breakfast at La Maison du Gout Cafè in Lillaz. This charming spot offered a perfect start to our explorations. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingled with the sweet scent of pastries, creating a cozy atmosphere that made us feel right at home. I savored a cappuccino while Hans enjoyed a hearty breakfast sandwich, and Sofia devoured a croissant with glee. Energized and ready, we set off towards our first destination: Cascate di Lillaz.

The Cascate di Lillaz were nothing short of spectacular. It was a truly immersive culinary experience, connecting us to the local culture and traditions. Sofia, surprisingly, enjoyed tasting the different cheeses, her little face scrunching up in delight at the more pungent varieties.

The refuge was warm and inviting, with a crackling fireplace providing a comforting ambiance. The menu featured traditional Aosta Valley dishes, prepared with fresh, local ingredients. We savored a delicious meal of polenta with mushrooms, a hearty and flavorful dish that was perfect for a chilly mountain evening. Sofia enjoyed a simple but satisfying plate of pasta with tomato sauce. After dinner, we stepped outside to admire the starlit sky, the Milky Way stretching across the heavens in a breathtaking display of cosmic beauty. It was a perfect ending to a perfect day, creating memories that we will cherish for a lifetime.
