Today in Chefchaouen was a beautiful blend of history and scenery. I spent the day exploring the cultural landmarks that offer a glimpse into the town's past, and the views were simply breathtaking. It’s amazing how much a change of scenery can inspire you, and today was no exception.

My day began with a hearty breakfast at Restaurant Hamsa. I opted for a traditional Moroccan breakfast, complete with pastries, mint tea, and olives. It was the perfect fuel for a day of exploration. The restaurant itself had a cozy atmosphere, making it a great spot to start the day.

With a full stomach and a sense of adventure, I made my way to the Kasbah. This fortress, located in the heart of Chefchaouen, was built in the 15th century to protect the town from invaders. As I walked through the gates, I was immediately struck by the grandeur of the structure. The clay-brown walls stood tall, a testament to the town's rich history.

Exploring the Kasbah felt like stepping back in time. I wandered through the Andalusian-style garden, admiring the fountains and peaceful patios. The air was filled with the scent of flowers, creating a serene atmosphere. I also visited the ethnological museum housed within the Kasbah, which offered a fascinating insight into the region's culture and heritage. There were displays of traditional musical instruments, pottery, and even weaponry used to defend the fortress. It was a comprehensive look at the history of Chefchaouen and its people.

After immersing myself in the history of the Kasbah, I decided to head to the Bouzafer Mosque, also known as the Spanish Mosque. This mosque is perched on a hill overlooking Chefchaouen, offering panoramic views of the blue city and the surrounding Rif Mountains. The hike to the mosque took about 30-45 minutes from the medina, and the trail itself was quite scenic.

As I made my way up the hill, I passed through narrow pathways with stunning views of the blue-washed buildings. The landscape was dotted with agave plants and pear cacti, adding to the charm of the hike. Despite its name, the Bouzafer Mosque was actually built by the Spanish during their occupation of the city in the early 20th century. Ironically, it was never officially used for worship, as the locals considered it impure.

Reaching the top, I was rewarded with a breathtaking view. The entire town of Chefchaouen was laid out before me, a sea of blue against the backdrop of the mountains. It was the perfect spot to take photos and simply soak in the beauty of the surroundings. I spent a good hour just sitting there, enjoying the tranquil atmosphere and the stunning vistas.

According to some articles, the Bouzafer Mosque is known as the perfect spot to watch the sunset. However, other travellers have reported that the mountains block the view before the sun dips below the horizon. Regardless, the golden light cast a magical glow over the town, making it a truly unforgettable experience.

For lunch, I stopped by Restaurant Chourafa, a place recommended for its Mediterranean and Moroccan cuisine. I decided to try their seafood soup, which came highly recommended. The soup was flavorful and rich, a delightful mix of local spices and fresh seafood. The restaurant had a cozy ambiance, and the staff were very welcoming.

In the late afternoon, I decided to unwind at Bar Oum Rabie. This bar is known for its views of the Grand Mosque, so I thought it would be a great place to relax and enjoy a drink. I ordered a glass of Moroccan wine and some tapas, and sat by the window, taking in the sights and sounds of Chefchaouen. The atmosphere was lively, with locals and tourists mingling and chatting.

As the day drew to a close, I made my way to Restaurant Hajji for dinner. This restaurant is known for its traditional Moroccan dishes, so I was eager to try their couscous. The couscous was delicious, a perfect blend of tender meat, fluffy couscous, and flavorful vegetables. The staff were friendly and attentive, making for a pleasant dining experience.

Before heading back to Hotel Dar Mounir, I took a leisurely stroll through the medina. The blue streets were quieter now, illuminated by the soft glow of streetlights. It was a peaceful end to a day filled with exploration and discovery.

Tomorrow, I plan to visit Jamaa and Plaza Mohammed V, continuing my exploration of Chefchaouen's landmarks. I also intend to do some shopping at les_sens_de chefchaouen. It’s hard to believe that tomorrow marks the final day of my solo adventure. I will be flying from Tangier back to Dresden soon, with a camera full of memories and a travel journal filled with stories.

Chefchaouen has a special charm that's hard to put into words. It’s a place where the vibrant blue hues blend seamlessly with the rich cultural heritage, creating an atmosphere that's both enchanting and captivating. I’m so glad I decided to embark on this solo journey, and I can’t wait to share more of my experiences with you all.

I’m particularly grateful that Maximilian and Clara are doing well back home in Dresden. I miss them dearly, and I know Clara is eager to hear all about the blue city. I’m also glad that I remembered to pack my camera, as I’ve been able to capture some truly stunning photos. However, I do wish I hadn’t forgotten my sunglasses; the Moroccan sun can be quite intense!
