Chasing Horizons in Hoi An

Today was a beautiful blend of exploration and relaxation, a true taste of what Hoi An has to offer. From the spiritual heights of Marble Mountains, every moment felt like a postcard come to life. It’s days like these that remind me why I traded my Amsterdam apartment for a life of travel, seeking out the unique stories woven into the fabric of different cultures.

Our day began with a hearty breakfast at the Hoi An Riverside Restaurant. The fresh air and the gentle sounds of the river were the perfect backdrop as we enjoyed traditional Vietnamese dishes. I went for a classic Pho, while Jan opted for something a little spicier. It's always a good start to the day when you have a nice meal and a beautiful view.

After breakfast, we set off to explore the Marble Mountains. The caves and temples were incredible, offering a glimpse into the region's rich history and spiritual heritage. Climbing the steps, I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe at the intricate carvings and the serene atmosphere. The panoramic views from the top were breathtaking, stretching out over the coastline and the surrounding countryside. It was fascinating to learn about the mountains' significance during the Vietnam War, a stark reminder of the resilience and strength of the Vietnamese people. I made sure to capture as many photos as possible, hoping to convey the beauty and history of this place to you all.

Sometimes, the most profound experiences are found in the quiet corners of the world, where nature and culture intertwine.

Next on our agenda was An Bang Beach, a welcome contrast to the rugged terrain of the Marble Mountains. The sun was shining, the sky was blue, and the sand was soft beneath our feet. We spent the afternoon lounging on the beach, swimming in the clear waters, and soaking up the tropical vibes. It was the perfect opportunity to unwind and recharge after our morning adventure. I even tried my hand at stand-up paddleboarding, which was both exhilarating and surprisingly challenging. Jan, ever the supportive husband, captured my less-than-graceful attempts on camera, promising blackmail material for years to come. An Bang Beach is truly a gem, offering a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The best time to visit An Bang Beach is between March and September. During these months, the weather is sunny and dry, perfect for safe swimming. The water is warm, and the waves are gentle, making it enjoyable for everyone.

As the sun began to set, we made our way to Tra Que Minty Garden for lunch. This charming restaurant is set amidst lush vegetable gardens, providing a tranquil and picturesque setting for a meal. We indulged in a variety of local specialties, each dish bursting with fresh flavors and vibrant colors. The highlight of the meal was the Cao Lau, a regional noodle dish that is unique to Hoi An. The herbs and vegetables were incredibly fresh, having been picked straight from the garden. It was a true farm-to-table experience, and one that I will not soon forget.

In the late afternoon, I couldn't resist a bit of shopping at BLOOM HOI AN STORE. I found some beautiful handmade textiles and ceramics, perfect souvenirs to remind me of our time in Hoi An. Supporting local artisans is important to me, and I was happy to find a store that is committed to preserving traditional craftsmanship. I picked up a colorful scarf for myself and a few small gifts for family and friends back home. It's always nice to bring back a piece of the places we visit, a tangible reminder of the memories we've made.

For dinner, we chose Restaurant & Cafe Tuấn Rich Flavor of Hoi An Vietnamese Familly Restaurant, drawn in by its cozy atmosphere and rave reviews. And it did not disappoint! The owner was incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel like part of her family. We ordered a selection of Vietnamese dishes, including crispy pork, chicken with lemongrass, and, of course, more Cao Lau. Every dish was bursting with flavor, and the portions were generous. It was the perfect way to end a day filled with exploration and adventure.

As the evening drew to a close, we decided to check out Mezcal Cocteleria [ Hoi An Bar]. This cozy bar specializes in Mexican spirits and creative cocktails, offering a unique twist on the Hoi An nightlife scene. The antique brick arches, candlelight, and passionate bartenders created a warm and inviting atmosphere. We sampled a few of their signature cocktails, each one expertly crafted and bursting with flavor. I opted for a margarita, while Jan chose a smoky mezcal concoction. It was the perfect way to unwind and reflect on the day's adventures.

The first day of March was truly magical, a perfect blend of culture, cuisine, and relaxation. As I reflect on the day's adventures, I can't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to experience the beauty and charm of Hoi An. From the spiritual heights of Marble Mountains to the tranquil shores of An Bang Beach, every moment has been a treasure. And as I look ahead to tomorrow, I'm filled with excitement and anticipation for what new adventures await. We plan to explore Thanh Ha Pottery Village and Silk Village Hoi An - The Tourist, immersing ourselves in the local crafts and traditions. I'm particularly excited to visit Thanh Ha Pottery Village, as I've always been fascinated by the art of pottery. I can't wait to see the skilled artisans at work and perhaps even try my hand at creating my own masterpiece. And of course, we'll be sure to sample some more of Hoi An's delicious cuisine, with breakfast at Bale Well restaurant, lunch at Cơm Linh - Vietnamese Restaurant, and dinner at Cham Spa & Massage. Tomorrow promises to be another day filled with unforgettable experiences, and I can't wait to share it all with you.

But for now, it's time to rest and recharge, ready for another day of exploration and adventure. Goodnight from Hoi An, and sweet dreams to you all!

I am so glad Jan is here with me to experience all of this. Having someone to share these moments with makes them even more special. Plus, he's great at navigating and translating, which is always a bonus when traveling in a new country. His support and companionship mean the world to me, and I can't imagine embarking on these adventures without him.

I must remember to buy a travel adapter tomorrow – it's been a struggle to keep my devices charged. And perhaps a raincoat, just in case the weather takes a turn. These little things can make a big difference when you're on the road.

This trip has been a wonderful reminder of the beauty and diversity of our world, and I'm excited to continue sharing my experiences with you all. Thank you for joining me on this journey, and I hope that my stories inspire you to embark on your own adventures, wherever they may lead.

Until tomorrow, take care and happy travels!
