Today was a day of embracing the simple joys of Chefchaouen. From the soothing sounds of Ras El Ma to the vibrant heart of Plaza Uta el Hamman, every moment felt like stepping deeper into a postcard. I'm so grateful to share these experiences with my family, especially Sofia, who is absorbing the beauty and culture of her Moroccan heritage.

Our day began with a delightful breakfast at Assaada. The aroma of fresh Moroccan bread and mint tea filled the air as we settled into our seats. I opted for the kefta tagine, while Klaus enjoyed the sardine, and Sofia devoured a fruit salad. It was the perfect start to a day of exploration. I was so happy to find a place that served authentic Moroccan cuisine like my mother used to make back in Azrou.

With our bellies full, we made our way to Ras El Ma, a natural spring just outside the main medina. The walk there was a treat in itself, with the blue-washed buildings creating a mesmerizing path. As we arrived, the sound of rushing water welcomed us to a refreshing oasis. Locals were washing clothes and cooling off in the stream, a scene of everyday life unfolding before our eyes. Sofia was immediately drawn to the water, eager to dip her toes in. The air was filled with the chatter of families and the gentle murmur of the stream, a peaceful symphony that washed away any lingering stress.

After soaking in the tranquility of Ras El Ma, we ventured into the heart of Chefchaouen's medina, heading towards Plaza Uta el Hamman. The square was bustling with activity, a vibrant mix of locals and tourists mingling amidst the charming cafes and artisan shops. The aroma of spices and street food filled the air, tempting us at every turn. We paused to admire the architecture, the blue hues of the buildings creating a stunning backdrop against the clear sky.

We decided to have lunch at Restaurant Al Wiam, enticed by its lovely terrace overlooking the square. I chose a traditional tagine, savoring the rich flavors of the slow-cooked meat and vegetables. Klaus opted for the bean soup, while Sofia enjoyed some Moroccan chicken. The food was delicious, and the view was simply breathtaking. It was such a treat to sit there, enjoying the warmth of the sun and the lively atmosphere of the plaza.

As the afternoon wore on, we found ourselves drawn to the artisan shops lining the square. Sofia was fascinated by the colorful displays of handmade crafts, from woven carpets to intricate pottery. We purchased a small, hand-painted bowl as a memento of our time in Chefchaouen, a piece of the Blue Pearl to take back home to Bonn.

In the evening, we enjoyed dinner at Mandala, a restaurant recommended for its pizza and pasta. It was a welcome change from the traditional Moroccan cuisine we had been enjoying, and Sofia was thrilled to have a taste of home. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, and the food was delicious.

To cap off the evening, Klaus and I decided to sneak away for a quick drink at Bar Oum Rabie. It was a cozy little spot, filled with locals enjoying a relaxed evening. We sipped on some local wine, enjoying the lively atmosphere and the friendly chatter. It was a perfect way to end a day of exploration, a moment to savor the magic of Chefchaouen.

Tomorrow, we are planning a day trip to the Waterfalls Akchour. I've heard they are absolutely stunning, and I can't wait to share that experience with my family. I am a little concerned that I forgot to pack our raincoat and portable phone charger, but I am sure we will be fine.
