Adventuring Through Huascaran National Park with Friends
Day 6: Discovering Sacred Trees and Breathtaking Views in Huascaran National Park
A day of natural wonders in Huascaran National Park: Sacred trees, stunning views, and delightful Peruvian cuisine with friends.
A Day of Andean Wonders
Today was a day of exploring the natural and cultural treasures of Huascaran National Park. From panoramic viewpoints to sacred trees, every moment was filled with awe and wonder. I’m so excited to share these experiences with you, as this journey with my friends continues to unfold in the heart of the Peruvian Andes.
Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Bosque Del Prado. The morning air was crisp, carrying the scent of pine and damp earth. After a quick bite, we were ready to hit the trails.
Our first stop was the Mirador Tres Huancas. The drive there was an adventure in itself, with winding roads offering glimpses of the vast valleys below. As we ascended, the landscape transformed, revealing rugged cliffs and snow-capped peaks in the distance. When we finally reached the Mirador, I was speechless. The view was simply breathtaking. From our vantage point, we could see the three distinct Huancas, towering rock formations that jutted out from the earth like ancient sentinels. The sheer scale of the landscape was humbling, reminding me of the raw, untamed beauty of nature. I couldn't help but snap dozens of photos, trying to capture the grandeur of the scene, though no picture could truly do it justice.

“Sometimes, the most profound experiences are found in the simplest of moments, surrounded by nature's grandeur.”
After soaking in the views at Mirador Tres Huancas, we set off to find El Árbol de la Quina. This tree holds a special place in Peruvian history and culture, as it's featured on the country's national coat of arms. Finding the exact spot took a bit of searching, but the effort was well worth it. El Árbol de la Quina stands as a symbol of Peru's natural wealth and its contribution to medicine. Its bark has been used for centuries to treat malaria and other illnesses. Standing before this tree, I felt a deep connection to the land and its history. It was a moment of reverence, a reminder of the power and resilience of nature. It's incredible to think that this tree, with its medicinal properties, has played such a significant role in saving lives.

As we hiked, I couldn’t help but think of Lina and Jihad. Lina would have loved running around the open spaces, her laughter echoing through the mountains. I made a mental note to bring them back someday, to share this incredible experience with my family.
By lunchtime, we were all ravenous. We headed to Restaurant Chifa Polleria Guilla for a taste of local cuisine. The restaurant was bustling with activity, filled with locals and tourists alike. We ordered a variety of dishes, including chifa, a delicious fusion of Chinese and Peruvian flavors. The succulent roasted chicken and flavorful fried rice were a perfect combination after a morning of hiking. It was a delightful culinary experience, a true taste of Peru.

After lunch, we decided to indulge in a bit of shopping at Boutique miracle. I was on the hunt for unique souvenirs to bring back home. The shop was a treasure trove of local crafts and artisanal goods. I found a beautiful hand-woven scarf, perfect for Toronto’s chilly winters, and a few small trinkets for Lina. It’s always nice to support local artisans and bring a piece of the culture back with me.

For dinner, we chose Wayta - El Chef Andino, a restaurant known for its modern take on traditional Andean cuisine. The ambiance was cozy and inviting, with warm lighting and rustic decor.
