Finding Paradise in Pelion: A Day of Beach and Springs
Today was a day of pure relaxation and natural beauty here in Pelion. After several busy days of exploring villages and historical sites, Jihad, Lina, and I decided to dedicate today to unwinding and soaking up the serene atmosphere that this region so generously offers. It was a perfect blend of seaside bliss and tranquil nature, creating memories that I know we'll cherish for years to come.
Our day began with a delightful breakfast at Dovas Home Cooking in Chorefto. The aroma of freshly baked bread and strong Greek coffee filled the air as we settled into a cozy corner of the restaurant. This place is known for its traditional Mediterranean cuisine, and it certainly didn't disappoint. I ordered a simple yet satisfying Greek salad, bursting with the flavors of ripe tomatoes, crisp cucumbers, Kalamata olives, and creamy feta cheese. Jihad opted for the sardine, while Lina enjoyed a plate of spaghetti. The warm and inviting atmosphere of Dovas Home Cooking made us feel right at home, and the friendly staff ensured we had everything we needed. It was the perfect way to start our day, fueling us up for the adventures that awaited.
With our bellies full and our spirits high, we set off for Limnionas Beach. The drive there was an experience in itself, with winding roads offering breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea. As we descended towards the coast, the landscape transformed into a tapestry of lush greenery and rugged cliffs. Finally, we arrived at Limnionas, a hidden gem that seemed untouched by time.
Experience the tranquil beauty of Limnionas Beach, a hidden gem in Greece known for its crystal-clear waters and serene surroundings.
The beach was a mix of golden sand and pebbles, with crystal-clear turquoise waters gently lapping the shore. It was relatively quiet, which was exactly what we were hoping for. We quickly found a spot to set up our umbrellas and towels, and Lina was immediately captivated by the colorful pebbles, collecting them with the enthusiasm only a seven-year-old can possess. I dipped my toes into the water and was surprised by how refreshing it was. The sun was warm, but a gentle breeze kept us comfortable. It was the kind of day where you could just lie back, close your eyes, and let all your worries drift away.
Jihad and Lina were soon splashing around in the sea, their laughter echoing across the beach. I joined them for a swim, and we spent a good hour playing in the waves, building sandcastles, and simply enjoying each other's company. It felt like we were the only people in the world, lost in our own little paradise. I took so many photos, trying to capture every moment of joy and togetherness. These are the memories I want to hold onto forever.
After our swim, we decided to explore the rocky formations at the edge of the beach. Lina was particularly fascinated by the small caves and hidden coves, imagining pirates and hidden treasures. We spent ages searching for seashells and interesting rock formations, turning it into a mini-adventure for Lina. It was heartwarming to see her so engaged with nature, her curiosity and imagination running wild.
As lunchtime approached, we strolled over to The Salkimi, a charming tavern near Milies, which came highly recommended. The restaurant had a rustic, traditional feel, with wooden tables and chairs set under the shade of a sprawling grape vine. The air was filled with the tantalizing aroma of grilled meats and herbs, making our mouths water in anticipation. We ordered a selection of local specialties, including moussaka, souvlaki, and a fresh Greek salad. The food was absolutely delicious, each dish bursting with authentic flavors and cooked with love. Lina especially enjoyed the souvlaki, devouring it with gusto. The owner, Antonis, welcomed us with a warm smile, making us feel like part of the family. He shared stories about the history of the tavern and the region, adding to the overall experience. It's these personal touches that make traveling so special, connecting with people and cultures in a meaningful way.
Sometimes, the most profound experiences come from simply being present and appreciating the beauty that surrounds us.
After a satisfying lunch, we packed up our things and headed towards our next destination: the Spring of Manas. Located near Portaria, this natural spring is a hidden oasis of tranquility and beauty. The drive there took us through winding mountain roads, with stunning views at every turn. As we approached Portaria, the landscape became even more lush and green, with towering trees and vibrant flowers lining the roadside.

We parked the car and followed a short, scenic path that led us to the spring. As we walked, the sound of flowing water grew louder, creating a sense of anticipation. Finally, we reached the Spring of Manas, and it was even more breathtaking than we had imagined. Crystal-clear water gurgled and cascaded over rocks and pebbles, surrounded by lush greenery and towering trees. The air was fresh and clean, filled with the scent of pine and wildflowers. It was a truly magical place, a sanctuary of peace and serenity.
Lina was immediately drawn to the water, eager to splash and play. We let her paddle in the shallow pools, her laughter echoing through the forest. Jihad and I took a leisurely stroll along the paths that meandered through the area, admiring the natural beauty and soaking up the peaceful atmosphere. We found a quiet spot to sit and simply listen to the sound of the water, feeling our stress melt away with each passing moment. It was a perfect opportunity to connect with nature and each other, away from the distractions of modern life.
The Spring of Manas is not only a beautiful natural attraction, but it also holds cultural significance for the locals. We learned about the history of the spring and its importance to the community, adding another layer of depth to our experience. It's fascinating to discover the stories and traditions that are woven into the fabric of a place, connecting us to the past and enriching our understanding of the present.
As the sun began to set, we decided to head back towards our accommodation. But before we did, we made one last stop at Kenta Seaside Bar, located in Agios Ioannis. This bar came highly recommended for its stunning views and relaxed atmosphere, and it certainly lived up to its reputation. We settled into a comfortable spot on the outdoor terrace, overlooking the Aegean Sea. The sky was ablaze with color, as the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the clouds in hues of orange, pink, and purple. It was a truly breathtaking sight, one that I will never forget.

We ordered a round of drinks – a glass of local wine for Jihad and me, and a refreshing juice for Lina. We sat in silence, simply enjoying the view and each other's company. It was the perfect way to end our day, reflecting on all the wonderful experiences we had shared. As the stars began to twinkle in the night sky, we raised our glasses in a toast to family, adventure, and the beauty of Pelion.
For dinner, we chose O Christos in Agios Ioannis. While it didn't have any reviews, we decided to give it a try, and we were pleasantly surprised. The food was simple but delicious, and the service was warm and welcoming. It was a fitting end to a day filled with simple pleasures and authentic experiences.
Tomorrow, we're planning to explore more of Pelion's attractions, including Pelion Activities and The Little Train of Pelion. I'm particularly excited about the train ride, as I've heard it offers stunning views of the region. We'll also be stopping by The Shop Of Nature, and having dinner at SPECIAL DELIGHT restaurant & cocktail bar.
