Today was a day of pure exploration and relaxation here in the Con Dao Islands. I set out to discover some of the lesser-known spots, immersing myself in the natural beauty that this archipelago has to offer. From pristine beaches to secluded islands, every moment felt like a step further into paradise. I was excited to see what the day would bring, armed with my camera and a heart full of anticipation.

My day started with a delightful breakfast at Bar 200 - By The Beach. The gentle sea breeze and the sound of the waves created a serene atmosphere. I enjoyed a simple yet satisfying meal of *bánh mì ốp la* (Vietnamese-style fried eggs) and strong Vietnamese coffee, which gave me the perfect energy boost for the day ahead. It was a lovely way to begin, watching the island slowly wake up around me.

After breakfast, I headed to the port to catch a boat to Hòn Tre Lớn, also known as Big Bamboo Island. The boat ride itself was an experience, with panoramic views of the town, passing by Hòn Bà, Bến Đầm port, and the wild beauty of the Côn Đảo sea and sky. The island covers 77 ha, with its highest peak at 142m, covered with a cool bamboo forest. It's home to the rare White-browed Piculet and the second largest sea turtle nesting site in the Côn Sơn archipelago.
As we approached Hòn Tre Lớn, I was immediately struck by its untouched beauty. The island is a haven for nature lovers, with vibrant coral reefs perfect for snorkeling and exploring the pristine marine ecosystem. I spent a good portion of the morning snorkeling, marveling at the colorful fish and intricate coral formations. The water was so clear, it felt like swimming in an aquarium.

Sometimes, the most scenic roads in life are the detours you didn't mean to take.

After my snorkeling adventure, I enjoyed some fresh fruit, cool drinks and hot milk coffee amid the beautiful island atmosphere. I then had free time to swim on the quiet white sandy beach – a rare “private beach” experience. It was incredibly peaceful, and I felt a million miles away from everything. I thought of Moses and Hope, and how much they would have loved this secluded paradise. I made a mental note to bring them here someday.

In the afternoon, it was time to head back to the main island for lunch at Nhà Hàng Bến Cảng - Seafood Restaurant. This restaurant is known for its fresh seafood and authentic Vietnamese dining experience. I indulged in a variety of Con Dao's specialties, including snails, sea cucumbers, and clam girls. The restaurant boasts a stunning storefront and showcases live seafood in tanks, ensuring freshness in every dish. The open-air seating arrangement allowed me to enjoy the gentle sea breeze while watching boats glide across the water. It was a truly delightful culinary experience.

With a full stomach and a happy heart, I made my way to Bãi Đầm Trầu (Dam Trau Beach). This beach is considered one of the most beautiful in Con Dao, and it certainly lived up to its reputation. Located near the airport, it's the only place in Vietnam where you can swim and take pictures of planes landing right above you – a unique and thrilling experience. The beach is about a 30-minute drive from the town center, allowing visitors to enjoy the scenic route while heading to the beach.
I spent the late afternoon relaxing on the beach, soaking up the sun and enjoying the stunning scenery. The sand was soft and white, and the water was crystal clear. As the sun began to set, the sky transformed into a canvas of vibrant colors, creating a magical atmosphere. I took some time for personal reflection, thinking about my life back in Brampton and the work I do with immigrant families. This trip has given me a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper appreciation for the simple things in life.

As the day drew to a close, I headed to Sunset saigon bar for dinner and drinks. Perched atop The Secret hotel, Sunset Lounge is a unique destination amidst the pristine scenery of Con Dao. With its panoramic view of the sea, Sunset Lounge allows you to immerse yourself in emotion, blend with the rhythm of the waves, and savor the breathtaking moments of sunset. The combination of high-end dining experiences, vibrant music, and stunning panoramic views confirms that Sunset Lounge is a world-class entertainment venue that's hard to find elsewhere. I enjoyed some grilled seafood, paired with a refreshing cocktail, as I watched the sun dip below the horizon. The perfect end to a perfect day.

After dinner, I decided to check out Tiệm bia của mục, a local bar known for its relaxed atmosphere and friendly locals. It was a great place to unwind and chat with some of the islanders, learning more about their way of life. I even tried some local beer, which was surprisingly good. It was a fun and authentic experience, and I felt like I was truly connecting with the community.

As I reflect on the day, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to experience the beauty and tranquility of Con Dao. Tomorrow, I plan to visit **Di tích Bãi Sọ Người** and **Six Senses Con Dao**, which I am very much looking forward to. I am also excited to try the food stalls for breakfast. Each day brings new adventures and new discoveries, and I am eager to see what tomorrow holds.

Con Dao in December is simply magical. The weather has been pleasant, with mild temperatures ranging from 23°C (73°F) to 29°C (84°F). The humidity is relatively low, making it comfortable to enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, swimming, and snorkeling. The sea is calm with gentle winds, making it an excellent time for water sports. December is also one of the driest months in Con Dao, with occasional short rain showers. It is indeed a great time to visit.

As I prepare for my final day here in Con Dao, I can't help but feel a tinge of sadness. This solo journey has been a truly transformative experience, allowing me to reconnect with myself and appreciate the beauty of the world around me. I will carry these memories with me long after I leave this tranquil paradise. I’m especially grateful I didn’t forget any of my trip essentials, like my sunscreen! However, I do wish I had brought my sunglasses. Oh well!

Tomorrow marks the end of my solo journey to the Con Dao Islands. I plan to visit **Di tích Bãi Sọ Người** and **Six Senses Con Dao**. Before heading to the airport, I will do some souvenir shopping at **Takai Mart Côn Đảo** and have lunch at **Nhà Hàng Bến Cảng - Seafood Restaurant**, and dinner at **Infinity Cafe & Restaurant**. It’s been a great adventure, and I’m looking forward to sharing more stories from my travels soon.
