Explore Chefchaouen's stunning viewpoints and historic Mellah, savoring local flavors and vibrant sunsets on a memorable journey.
A Day of Discoveries in the Blue Pearl
Today was all about soaking in the views and delving a little deeper into the history of Chefchaouen. The city continues to enchant, and I'm finding new reasons to love it with every passing hour. It's amazing how a place can feel so familiar yet still hold so many surprises.
Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Chez Aziz. The aroma of freshly baked bread and mint tea filled the air, a perfect start to fuel our explorations. Lena particularly enjoyed the traditional Moroccan pancakes, declaring them the best she’d had so far. The friendly staff and cozy atmosphere made it feel like we were dining with family. It's these small, authentic experiences that really make a trip memorable. I couldn't help but think of my family back in Potsdam, missing Lena's laughter and the simple joys of our life there. But for now, I was determined to make the most of this adventure.
After breakfast, we decided to head to the City View Point. The walk was invigorating, with the cool morning air and the stunning views of Chefchaouen unfolding before us. The city looked like a painting, a cascade of blue hues against the backdrop of the Rif Mountains. From up there, you could see the entire medina, a maze of winding streets and vibrant rooftops. I tried to capture the scene with my camera, but no photograph could truly do justice to the breathtaking panorama. It's one of those moments you just have to experience to truly appreciate.

The beauty of Chefchaouen lies not just in its blue walls, but in the way it invites you to slow down and savor every moment.
Next on our list was El Mellah, the old Jewish quarter. Wandering through its narrow streets, I felt a palpable sense of history. The Mellah tells a story of cultural exchange and religious tolerance, a testament to the diverse communities that have shaped Chefchaouen. The architecture was subtly different here, with hints of Andalusian influence. I learned that Jewish families fleeing the Spanish Inquisition settled in Chefchaouen in the 15th century, bringing with them their traditions and painting the walls blue to symbolize the sky and the divine. Exploring the Mellah, I couldn't help but reflect on my own heritage, growing up in Greece and now living in Germany. It made me appreciate the richness of human history and the importance of preserving cultural heritage.

For lunch, we chose Restaurant Triana, enticed by its reputation for delicious Moroccan cuisine. The restaurant was charming, with a lovely terrace overlooking a small garden. We ordered a tagine and some couscous, both bursting with flavor. Lena and I shared stories and laughed. It was a perfect midday break. I made a mental note to try and recreate the tagine back home, though I doubted I could match the authentic taste of Morocco. We enjoyed it alongside some vegan options such as mushroom casserole, grilled seasonal vegetables, and pasta.

As the afternoon wore on, we decided to find a spot to watch the sunset. We stumbled upon Sunset at sunset, a cozy bar with a relaxed vibe. Sipping on mint tea, we watched as the sky transformed into a canvas of orange, pink, and purple. The view was simply magical, with the blue city bathed in the warm glow of the setting sun. The bar was filled with a mix of locals and tourists, all enjoying the peaceful atmosphere.

For dinner, we had reserved a table at The Magic Lamp House of Aladin. The restaurant lived up to its name, with a whimsical decor and stunning views of the main square. The food was delicious, a mix of Moroccan and international flavors. I tried the orange chicken, which was cooked to perfection. Lena opted for a vegetarian tagine, which she raved about. The Magic Lamp House of Aladin is known for offering a stunning view over Chefchaouen's main square. Although I missed visiting this spot on my recent trip as it was closed at sunset when I wanted to go, my memories and photos from 2013 remind me of its magical ambiance. The well-trained staff works hard, stays positive and makes this place great. The service at The Magic Lamp House of Aladin is something one can call spectacular. The prices are democratic for the quality you receive. I had a sense of contentment as I looked around, grateful for the experiences of the day.

As we walked back to Hotel Parador, the city was quiet, the air filled with the scent of night-blooming jasmine. The outdoor pool looked inviting, but we were both too tired to take a dip. Instead, we sat on our balcony, sipping tea and reflecting on the day. It had been a day of discovery, of panoramic views and hidden gems. Chefchaouen had once again exceeded my expectations.

Tomorrow marks the end of our adventure here in Chefchaouen. We plan to visit Hero Eagle and Lavadero de la ciudad, soaking in a final bit of Chefchaouen's charm. We'll have breakfast at Toda Creperie & Ice Cream, lunch at Restaurant Morisco, and a farewell dinner at Café & Restaurant Meftah. Before heading to the airport, we'll make a stop at Blue. concept store for some last-minute souvenir shopping. It's hard to believe our time here is almost over, but I'm already looking forward to sharing more stories from our travels.
Back in our room, I opened my travel journal, eager to capture the day's memories before they faded. The forgotten travel journal I had left back in Potsdam seemed like a distant memory now. I smiled, knowing that even without it, the memories of Chefchaouen would stay with me forever.
