Akchour's Call: A Day of Nature and Moroccan Flavors
Today was all about escaping the mesmerizing blue labyrinth of Chefchaouen and venturing into the raw, natural beauty that lies just a short drive away. With Lena by my side, I was eager to explore Akchour and immerse myself in the stunning landscapes of the Rif Mountains. It was a day filled with scenic hikes, delicious food, and unforgettable moments.

Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Chez Aziz, a place that had quickly become our morning ritual. The rooftop terrace was buzzing with fellow travelers, all eager to start their day. I savored the traditional Moroccan breakfast, complete with fresh bread, olives, and mint tea. Lena enjoyed her usual yogurt with fruit, a lighter option that fueled her for the adventures ahead. The staff at Chez Aziz are amazingly hospitable. The room is spacious and clean. Breakfast was brought up to our room every morning and was delicious. Free green Moroccan tea all day. It's the perfect way to kickstart any day in Chefchaouen.
After breakfast, we set off towards Akchour. The drive itself was an experience, winding through the picturesque Rif Mountains. I couldn't help but notice the cannabis farms dotting the landscape. It was a stark reminder of the region's complex history and culture. The views, however, were undeniably breathtaking.
Arriving in Akchour, we were immediately greeted by the vibrant energy of the place. Locals and tourists alike were gearing up for hikes to the waterfalls and God's Bridge. The atmosphere was buzzing with anticipation. We parked the car and started our trek, armed with our trusty cameras and a sense of adventure.
The trail to the waterfalls was moderately challenging, with some steep sections and rocky paths. But the stunning scenery more than made up for the effort. Lush greenery, dramatic cliffs, and the sound of rushing water surrounded us. We passed several natural pools, each more inviting than the last. Though the water was chilly, we couldn't resist taking a quick dip to cool off.
Sometimes, the greatest adventures are found not in grand monuments, but in the quiet whispers of nature.
As we hiked further, we came across several small restaurants and snack stands along the river. The aroma of tagine filled the air, tempting our taste buds. We decided to stop at one of these riverside eateries for lunch. Sitting at a table with our feet dangling in the cool water, we savored a delicious tagine, cooked to perfection with tender meat and flavorful vegetables. It was a truly immersive dining experience, surrounded by the beauty of nature.
After our delightful lunch, we continued our hike to the main attraction: the Akchour Waterfalls. The sight of the cascading water was simply breathtaking. The falls plunged down from rocky cliffs, creating a picturesque scene that seemed straight out of a movie. We spent some time taking photos and soaking in the beauty of the place. It was a moment of pure bliss, surrounded by the raw power and serenity of nature.
On our way back, we decided to take a slightly different route, exploring more of the Akchour area. We stumbled upon a hidden gem: a secluded spot by the river where we could relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. We sat there for a while, listening to the gentle sounds of the water and soaking in the sun. It was the perfect way to unwind after a day of hiking and exploring.
Leaving Akchour, we drove back to Chefchaouen, feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. The natural beauty of Akchour had worked its magic on us, washing away the stresses of city life and filling us with a sense of calm and contentment.
Back in Chefchaouen, we strolled along Boulevard Mohamed V, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere of the town. The street was bustling with activity, locals and tourists alike enjoying the evening air. We stopped by a local shop to buy some souvenirs, small reminders of our time in this magical blue city.

For dinner, we chose Restaurant Hamsa, drawn in by the excellent reviews. Located upstairs off the main square, this restaurant boasts a rooftop terrace with stunning views of the iconic blue houses. The food was excellent, offering some great vegetarian options. The price was a little higher than Sofia, but the views were worth it. I opted for a traditional Moroccan dish, while Lena, ever the adventurous foodie, tried a vegetarian tagine. Both dishes were delicious, bursting with flavor and spices. The view from the rooftop terrace was simply stunning, overlooking the blue houses of Chefchaouen.

We also plan to visit CHAOUEN GIFTS to get gifts for family back home.
