Whispers of Water and Windswept Vistas

Today was a symphony of nature’s finest compositions. From the gentle cascade of hidden waterfalls to the panoramic embrace of windswept vistas, Chapada dos Guimarães revealed yet another layer of its captivating charm. It was a day of simple pleasures, shared laughter, and profound appreciation for the raw beauty that cradles this Brazilian gem. It’s days like these that make me feel so grateful for the opportunity to explore and share these experiences with you all.

The day began, as most of our mornings here have, with a hearty breakfast at Atmã Restaurante & Pousada. The panoramic views from the restaurant never get old; it’s like dining inside a living postcard. Fuelled up and ready for the day, we set off to find Cachoeira do Pingador.

The drive itself was an adventure, the landscape unfolding in layers of green and ochre. The closer we got to the waterfall, the more the air hummed with anticipation. It's a bit of a hidden gem, tucked away on a private property, and accessed via a short, scenic trek through lush greenery. The falls aren't massive, about 12 meters high, but the water is crystal clear, and it forms a natural pool at the bottom, perfect for a refreshing dip. The pool has a sandy bottom, which Thando would have loved, making it ideal for kids. I made a mental note to bring Olivia and Thando here someday; they would absolutely adore it.

The best view comes after the hardest climb.

After our refreshing interlude at Cachoeira do Pingador, we were ready for lunch. We decided to try Restaurante Véu De Noiva, known for its traditional Brazilian dishes and stunning views. The restaurant is located within the national park, offering panoramic views of the lush landscapes and dramatic cliffs. I opted for a local specialty, a hearty stew that was bursting with flavour. My friends enjoyed a variety of dishes, all made with fresh, local ingredients. The friendly service added to the overall experience; it felt like we were dining with family.

With our bellies full and spirits high, we decided to do a little shopping at Eddy Eddy Shop. I wasn't really planning on buying anything, but I always enjoy browsing local shops and seeing what unique items they have to offer. Eddy Eddy Shop turned out to be a delightful surprise, a stylish clothing store with a great selection of apparel for both men and women. They showcase local designers and unique pieces that you won't find anywhere else. I ended up finding a really cool, locally designed shirt that I knew Thando would love. I can't wait to give it to him when I get back to Kelowna.

As the afternoon began to wane, we made our way to Mirante das Cachoieras. The view from the top was simply breathtaking. From our vantage point, we could see the sun painting the sky with hues of orange, pink, and purple as it began its descent. The panoramic vista stretched out before us, revealing the vast expanse of the park, with its mesas, canyons, and distant waterfalls. It was a moment of pure serenity, a chance to reflect on the beauty of nature and the incredible journey we've been on.

For dinner, we chose Pomodori Trattoria, a cozy Italian restaurant in the heart of Chapada dos Guimarães. After days of Brazilian cuisine, we were all craving something a little different, and Pomodori Trattoria definitely hit the spot. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with rustic decor and soft lighting. I ordered a pasta dish with local mushrooms, and it was absolutely delicious. My friends opted for pizzas and other Italian classics, and everyone was happy with their meals. It was the perfect way to end a perfect day.

As I sit here now, writing this entry, I can't help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude. Chapada dos Guimarães has exceeded all of my expectations. The natural beauty is simply stunning, but it's the people, the culture, and the sense of adventure that have truly captured my heart.

Tomorrow marks the final day of our Chapada adventure, and we plan to make the most of it. We're heading to Caverna Aroe Jari and Cachoeira da Tartaruga [if last day of trip, merge in “Trip end”]. Caverna Aroe Jari, I hear, is an awe-inspiring cave that stretches deep into the earth, adorned with unique rock formations and underground streams. Cachoeira da Tartaruga, on the other hand, is a picturesque waterfall known for its tranquil setting and crystal-clear waters.

I am planning to have breakfast at Restaurante Penhasco, lunch at Garoa Restaurante, and a final celebratory dinner at Bistrô da Mata. And of course, we can't leave Chapada without a final stop at Bodega da Chapada, a local bar known for its lively atmosphere and delicious cocktails. It's the perfect place to raise a glass to the memories we've made and the adventures we've shared.

Until tomorrow, fellow travellers. May your days be filled with wonder, and your hearts be open to the beauty that surrounds you.

Reflecting on this trip, I realize how much I miss Olivia and Thando when I'm away. I find myself constantly thinking about them, picturing their faces as I experience these incredible sights and sounds. I know they would love Chapada dos Guimarães just as much as I do. I'm already planning our next family adventure, a chance for us to explore the world together and create memories that will last a lifetime. Maybe we'll even return to Chapada someday, so I can share this magical place with the two people who mean the most to me.

And to my friends who shared this adventure with me, thank you for the laughter, the camaraderie, and the unforgettable moments. Traveling with you has made this experience even more special, and I'm grateful for the bonds we've forged along the way.

As I prepare for our final day in Chapada dos Guimarães, I carry with me a sense of peace and contentment. This trip has been a reminder of the importance of disconnecting from the everyday and reconnecting with nature, with ourselves, and with the people we love. It's a lesson I'll carry with me long after I return to Kelowna, a reminder to embrace the present moment and to cherish the beauty that surrounds us, both near and far.

I'm also reminded of how lucky I am to have a supportive partner like Olivia, who encourages me to pursue my passions and to explore the world. Her unwavering belief in me gives me the strength to step outside my comfort zone and to embrace new experiences. I know that no matter where my adventures take me, I always have her love and support to come home to.

And of course, I can't forget about Thando, my little explorer. His curiosity and enthusiasm for life inspire me every day. I can't wait to share my stories and photos with him when I get back, and to plan our next adventure together. Maybe we'll even learn to play the djembe drum together, a skill I've been wanting to acquire for a while now.

As the stars begin to twinkle in the night sky, I feel a sense of anticipation for tomorrow's adventures. Caverna Aroe Jari and Cachoeira da Tartaruga await, and I'm eager to discover their hidden wonders. But for now, I'll rest and recharge, ready to embrace whatever the final day of our Chapada adventure may bring.

Until then, may your dreams be filled with waterfalls, sunsets, and the promise of new adventures.
