Discover the tranquil beauty of Poovar with a serene backwater cruise and a mesmerizing sunset view. Family memories made in Kerala!
A Day of Discovery in Poovar
Today was a day of serene beauty and delightful discoveries as we explored the southern tip of Kerala in Poovar. The promise of tranquil backwaters and stunning sunsets had us eager to start our day, and Poovar certainly didn't disappoint. It's amazing how quickly you can fall in love with a place that offers such a perfect blend of nature and culture.
Our day began with a hearty breakfast at the Indian Coffee House. I opted for a classic masala dosa, while Lena enjoyed a plate of idli sambar, and Sophia, ever the predictable one, went for bread and butter. It's funny how some things remain constant, even when you're thousands of miles from home. The Indian Coffee House had a cozy atmosphere, and the food was both affordable and delicious. It was the perfect way to fuel up for our backwater adventure.

After breakfast, we set off for our main event: the Poovar Backwater Cruise. We had heard so much about these cruises, and I was particularly excited to capture some stunning photographs of the landscape. We chose a boat operator recommended online to ensure a fair price and a good experience, especially after reading some stories about tourists being overcharged. Thankfully, our guide, Shaijin, was fantastic. He was patient and knowledgeable, pointing out various landmarks and wildlife along the way.

The cruise itself was magical. We glided along the tranquil waterways, surrounded by lush greenery and the sounds of nature. The kids were fascinated by the different birds we spotted, and I managed to get some great shots of the landscape. The boat ride took us through narrow canals, under coconut trees, and past local villages, offering a glimpse into the daily life of the people who call these backwaters home.
Sometimes, the most beautiful moments are the ones where you simply allow yourself to be present, soaking in the sights and sounds around you.
For lunch, Shaijin took us to Lucka'S Open Restaurant, a charming eatery with a beautiful lakeside view. We savored some authentic Kerala cuisine, including fish curry, fried prawns, and biryani. The food was incredibly fresh and flavorful, and the peaceful atmosphere made it all the more enjoyable. Sophia, surprisingly, devoured the fish curry, declaring it her new favorite dish. Lena and I shared a moment of amusement, realizing that our little one was embracing the local flavors more enthusiastically than we had anticipated.

After our delightful lunch, we decided to take a detour to Pirates Island for a quick drink. It was an interesting experience, a bar nestled in the tropical backwaters. The place had a lively atmosphere, and we enjoyed some refreshing cocktails while soaking in the unique setting. Sophia was thrilled with the pirate theme, and Lena and I appreciated the chance to relax and unwind for a bit.

As the day drew to a close, we made our way to Cheepunkal Sunset View Point. This spot is renowned for its stunning vistas, and it certainly lived up to its reputation. We arrived early to secure a good spot, and as the sun began to set, the sky transformed into a canvas of vibrant colors. The tranquil waters reflected the hues of orange, pink, and purple, creating a breathtaking spectacle.

It was the perfect end to a perfect day. We sat there, hand in hand, watching the sun dip below the horizon, feeling grateful for this incredible experience. Sophia, nestled between us, pointed at the sky, exclaiming, Look, Mommy, Daddy, it's like a painting!
Tomorrow, we are heading to Lake Viewpoint and Kochi Backwaters. I'm looking forward to more scenic views and cultural immersion. Before that, though, we'll grab breakfast at Backwater Cafe and maybe have lunch at Karma Waterside Restaurant. I'm also planning to visit Prakriti Bakes to grab something sweet.
I'm still trying to figure out how to pack everything into our suitcases. Lena is already making a list of souvenirs she wants to buy, and Sophia is determined to bring back a coconut. It's moments like these that make traveling with family so special, even with the added chaos.
As I reflect on today, I'm reminded of why I love traveling so much. It's not just about seeing new places; it's about experiencing new things, connecting with different cultures, and creating lasting memories with my loved ones. And as we continue our journey through the Kerala Backwaters, I know that there are many more adventures to come.
