Day 4: Chasing Views and Flavors in the Dades Valley
Exploring the stunning Dades Valley: Monkey Fingers, breathtaking gorges, and delicious Moroccan cuisine with family and friends.
A Day of Wonders in the Dades Valley
Today was a sensory feast as we continued our journey through Morocco's Dades Valley. From dramatic landscapes to tantalizing local cuisine, every moment was filled with awe and delight. It’s amazing how much beauty and culture can be packed into a single day, especially when shared with my favorite travel companions, Mei and Lina.
Our day began with a hearty Moroccan breakfast at Café restaurant amazir. The inviting ambiance and attentive service set the perfect tone for the day. I enjoyed a traditional tagine, savoring the blend of locally sourced ingredients and authentic spices. Mei opted for the fluffy couscous, while Lina couldn't get enough of the fresh, warm bread. The terrace offered a lovely view, making our breakfast even more enjoyable. It’s fascinating how a simple meal can encapsulate the essence of a culture. We were fueled for adventure and ready to explore!
The beauty of the Dades Valley lies not only in its stunning landscapes but also in the warmth and hospitality of its people.
Our first stop was the famed Monkey finger viewpoint. The drive there was an experience in itself, with the landscape transforming into a dramatic display of rugged mountains and steep cliffs. When we arrived, the view was simply breathtaking. The unique rock formations, resembling monkey fingers reaching towards the sky, were a sight to behold. I spent a good hour snapping photos from every possible angle, trying to capture the grandeur of the scene. Lina was particularly fascinated, pointing out different shapes and creatures she saw in the rocks. It's moments like these that make traveling with family so special.

Next, we ventured into the heart of the Gorges du Dadès, Maroc. The towering canyon walls, carved over centuries by the Dadès River, created an awe-inspiring panorama. We drove along the winding roads, stopping frequently to soak in the views. The play of light and shadow on the red and ochre-colored rocks was mesmerizing. I felt like I was driving through a living painting, each turn revealing a new masterpiece. We even spotted some local Berber villages clinging to the mountainsides, a testament to the resilience and ingenuity of the people who call this valley home.

For lunch, we stopped at Auberge Miguirne chez Ali, a charming spot known for its traditional Moroccan cuisine and warm hospitality. The auberge was beautifully decorated with colorful carpets and intricate details, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. We sat on the terrace, enjoying the stunning views of the valley while we waited for our meal. I ordered a tagine, Mei had a flavorful vegetarian dish, and Lina enjoyed some grilled chicken. The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. It felt like we were dining in someone's home, surrounded by warmth and genuine hospitality.

In the late afternoon, we decided to take a break at Café restaurant Ait Moujan. Nestled in the Gorges du Dadès, this café offered stunning views of the surrounding mountains and lush greenery. We sipped on refreshing mint tea, a staple in Moroccan culture, and savored the peaceful atmosphere. Lina enjoyed a traditional Moroccan dessert, while Mei and I simply soaked in the beauty of the landscape. It was the perfect way to unwind after a day of exploration.

As the sun began to set, we made our way to Chez Pierre for dinner. This restaurant is renowned for its authentic Moroccan flavors and cozy ambiance. The restaurant was beautifully decorated with traditional decor, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. I opted for a tagine, while Mei chose a perfectly grilled meat dish, and Lina enjoyed a kid-friendly option. The food was exceptional, and the service was impeccable. It was the perfect ending to a perfect day.

Before heading back to our guesthouse, we stopped by Café restaurant Ait Moujan again, this time for a relaxing evening drink. The café was lively with both tourists and locals, creating a vibrant atmosphere. We enjoyed some local music and soaked in the energy of the place. It was a great way to experience the local culture and connect with the community.
Looking ahead to tomorrow, we plan to explore the Tisderine bends and the Roses Valley. I’ve heard the bends offer some incredible photo opportunities, and the Roses Valley is famous for its fragrant rosewater production. We might even stop by ORINO SHOP to pick up some souvenirs for our friends back in Berlin. I'm also looking forward to trying the local cuisine at Cafe restaurant Oussikis for breakfast, Soffi Cafe Restaurant for lunch, and La famille kasbah for dinner.
As I reflect on today, I'm filled with gratitude for the opportunity to experience such a beautiful and culturally rich place with my family.
