Exploring the Natural Wonders of Mols Bjerge National Park
Day 13: Summiting Mols Bjerge: A Day of Heights and Culinary Delights
Experience the breathtaking views from Hyllested Bjerge and Ellemandsbjerget, topped off with exquisite dining in Mols Bjerge National Park.
A Day Amongst the Hills
Today was all about embracing the heights of Mols Bjerge, both literally and figuratively. With my friends by my side, I ventured into the heart of the national park, ready to conquer some hills and indulge in the local flavors. It was a day of panoramic views, hearty meals, and the kind of camaraderie that makes travel so special.
Our morning began with a hearty breakfast at Stenbækhus / mad på Mols. It's a charming spot, and I opted for the youghurt with crumble and sirup [I have a sweet tooth, what can I say?], which was the perfect fuel for our upcoming hike. I made sure everyone had their fill, knowing we'd need the energy for the trails ahead. It reminded me of the simple, satisfying breakfasts Markus makes for me back in Helsinki before our cross-country skiing trips.

With our stomachs full and spirits high, we set off towards Hyllested Bjerge. The trails wound through varied forest areas and meadows, with old beech trees and juniper bushes dotting the landscape. The area is managed as a natural forest with grazing, which gave it a wonderfully wild feel. The trails were easy to follow, and the fresh air and gentle breeze made for a pleasant hike. I couldn't help but snap photos at every turn; the views were simply too beautiful to resist. The vibrant greenery against the clear blue sky was a sight to behold, a stark contrast to the urban landscapes I'm used to.

The best view comes after the hardest climb.
Next on our list was Ellemandsbjerget top, the highest point on the Helgenæs peninsula. The path to the top was a bit steeper, but the panoramic views were more than worth the effort. From the cleared summit, we could see Helgenæs, Aarhus, Mols Bjerge, and even the islands of Hjelm, Samsø, and Tunø in the distance. The view was truly breathtaking, and we spent a good amount of time simply soaking it all in. I felt a sense of accomplishment, not just from reaching the top, but from sharing this incredible experience with my friends. It reminded me of summiting Fløya in Norway with Markus, though this was, admittedly, a bit less strenuous.

After our hike, we were ready for a well-deserved lunch. Restaurant Moment was our choice, and it turned out to be an excellent one. This elevated vegetarian restaurant is located inside Friland eco-village, and the setting was as unique as the food. I opted for the chef's choice, eager to sample the local flavors. The meal was a culinary adventure, with each dish beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. I especially enjoyed the geranium-baked carrot with homemade smoked cheese; it was a creative and delicious combination. The restaurant's commitment to sustainability and local ingredients resonated with me, aligning perfectly with my own values. I even picked up some ideas for incorporating more local produce into my cooking back in Helsinki.

As evening approached, we made our way to Molskroen for dinner. This classic seaside inn exudes charm and elegance, and the dining experience was nothing short of exceptional. The menu featured a mix of traditional and modern dishes, with an emphasis on seasonal ingredients. I decided on the roasted monkfish, which was cooked to perfection and served with a delightful fricassée of seasonal vegetables and herbs. The ambiance was warm and inviting, and the service was impeccable. It was the perfect way to celebrate our day of hiking and exploration.

To cap off the evening, we headed to S'vinbar for a nightcap. This wine bar in Aarhus boasts a carefully curated selection of wines from around the world, and the atmosphere was lively and inviting. I enjoyed a glass of local wine, savoring the moment and reflecting on the day's adventures. The bar was bustling with locals and tourists alike, creating a vibrant and social atmosphere. It was a great way to unwind and connect with others who share a love for good wine and good company.

As I sit here now, writing this entry, I can't help but feel grateful for the experiences I've had today. The stunning landscapes, the delicious food, and the wonderful company have all contributed to a truly unforgettable day in Mols Bjerge National Park. It's moments like these that remind me why I love to travel and explore new places. Tomorrow, we're planning to visit Kalø Castle and explore more of Mols Bjerge. I'm excited to see what other hidden gems this beautiful region has in store for us. I am particularly looking forward to Kalø Castle. I read that you can climb to the top of the castle ruin and enjoy the view of Mols Bjerge. We might also stop by Ørnbjerg Mølle, a local shop. But for now, it's time to rest and recharge for another day of adventure.
I must admit that I forgot my sunscreen and portable phone charger at home. I will need to remember to get those tomorrow.
I am also reminded of something that happened today that I did not write about earlier. As we hiked, one of my friends twisted his ankle. We had to take it very slow, but he was a trooper and made it through the hike. He is fine now, and we are all looking forward to tomorrow, and hopefully there will be no more injuries.
I am also enjoying the fact that I am travelling with friends. It is always great to share experiences with others, and it makes the trip that much more enjoyable. I am already looking forward to our next trip together, wherever that may be. I am thinking of suggesting a trip to Iceland. I have always wanted to go there, and I think it would be a great experience for all of us.
One thing is for sure, I will remember this trip to Mols Bjerge National Park for a long time. It has been an incredible experience, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to explore this beautiful region of Denmark.
I am also very grateful for my husband, Markus, who always supports me in my travels. He is the best husband a woman could ask for, and I love him very much. I miss him and Aino, and I am looking forward to seeing them again when I get back to Helsinki.
I am also thinking of my job as a librarian. I love my job, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to work with books and help others discover the magic of the written word. I am also grateful for my colleagues, who are all so supportive and helpful. I am very lucky to have such a great job.
It is also interesting to see the local culture here. I am always fascinated by the different ways people live and interact with each other. It is a great way to learn about the world and expand my horizons. I am also trying to learn some Danish, but it is not easy. It is a very different language from Finnish, and I am struggling to get the pronunciation right. But I am determined to learn at least a few basic phrases before I leave.
I am also thinking of my parents back in Alaska. I miss them very much, and I am looking forward to seeing them again soon. I am so grateful for everything they have done for me, and I love them very much. I am planning to visit them in the fall, and I am already looking forward to it.
I am also thinking of my childhood in Alaska. I had a wonderful childhood, and I am so grateful for the experiences I had growing up there. I learned to appreciate nature and the outdoors, and I developed a love for storytelling. These experiences have shaped me into the person I am today, and I am very grateful for them.
As I finish writing this entry, I am feeling tired but content. It has been a long day, but it has been a good day. I am looking forward to a good night's sleep, and I am excited for what tomorrow will bring. Goodnight!
