Sunday in San Cristóbal: A Day of Discovery
Today was one of those travel days where everything just clicked. I woke up feeling refreshed and ready to explore more of San Cristóbal de las Casas. With no set plans other than a few restaurant reservations, I let the day unfold organically, and it turned out to be a beautiful blend of culture, cuisine, and charming discoveries.
My day began with a delightful breakfast at Restaurante Al Sazón Que Me Toquen... The name itself, which roughly translates to 'To My Liking,' promised a personalized culinary experience, and it certainly delivered. The restaurant is known for its traditional Mexican cuisine and colorful Chiapan ambiance. I opted for the *chilaquiles*, a classic breakfast dish of fried tortilla chips simmered in salsa, topped with cheese and a fried egg. It was the perfect way to start a day of exploring, hearty and full of flavor. Sipping my *café de olla*, sweetened with *piloncillo* and spiced with cinnamon, I felt ready to embrace the day.

After breakfast, I decided to wander through the heart of San Cristóbal. The city was buzzing with activity. Families were strolling, vendors were setting up their stalls, and the air was filled with the sounds of music and laughter. I made my way towards Calle los Arquitectos. This street is known for its concentration of artisan workshops and boutiques. As I walked along Calle los Arquitectos, I was captivated by the colorful buildings and the intricate details of the architecture. Each doorway seemed to lead to a new discovery, from cozy cafes to hidden courtyards filled with flowers.

I spent a good hour browsing the shops, admiring the hand-crafted textiles, jewelry, and pottery. It’s amazing the concentration of architectural firms there! I resisted the urge to buy everything in sight, reminding myself of the limited space in my luggage. I did, however, find a beautiful hand-embroidered blouse that I couldn't resist. It was the perfect souvenir, a tangible reminder of my time in San Cristóbal.
The best journeys answer questions that in the beginning you didn't even think to ask.
For lunch, I headed to Restaurante La Lupe. This place was recommended to me by several locals, and it didn't disappoint. La Lupe is known for its authentic Mexican cuisine, with a focus on regional dishes. The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, with colorful decor and friendly staff. I decided to try the *tacos de cochinita pibil*, slow-roasted pork marinated in *achiote* and citrus juices. The pork was incredibly tender and flavorful, and the tacos were served with a variety of homemade salsas, each with its own unique kick. It was a true culinary delight.

After lunch, I felt like doing some shopping, so I went to Mi Arcoiris Boutique. It was a treasure trove of unique and handcrafted items. From vibrant textiles to quirky home decor, everything in the shop seemed to tell a story. I picked up a few small gifts for friends back in Berlin, knowing they would appreciate the unique and artisanal quality of the items.

As the afternoon wore on, I decided to treat myself to a leisurely glass of wine. I made my way to Ma Char Nu Das Wine & Pub, a cozy spot known for its extensive wine list and relaxed atmosphere. The bar was dimly lit and inviting, with comfortable seating and walls adorned with local art. I ordered a glass of Mexican red wine and settled in to watch the world go by. The wine was rich and full-bodied, and it paired perfectly with the cheese and charcuterie board I ordered. It was the perfect way to unwind after a day of exploring.

The sky began to transform into a canvas of oranges, pinks, and purples as the sun dipped below the horizon. I savored the last sips of my wine, feeling grateful for the experiences of the day. San Cristóbal had once again charmed me with its beauty, its culture, and its delicious food.
As I walked back to Hotel Sombra del Agua, I reflected on the day's adventures. From the hearty breakfast to the artisan shops to the relaxing wine bar, every moment had been a delight. I am so glad I decided to come to San Cristóbal de las Casas.

Tomorrow is my last full day in San Cristóbal, and I plan to make the most of it. I am planning to visit Descarga San Juan De Dios and Casa de Piedra. I’ve also made reservations at LA PEREGRINA COCINA YUCATECA for breakfast, Restaurante Las Pichanchas for lunch, and Bangcook Tailandés for dinner. I'm also hoping to do some last-minute souvenir shopping at Liverpool Express and enjoy a drink at Ginger Lab. I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
Good night from San Cristóbal!
