Discovering Ronda's Soul

Today, Hans and I set out to explore the heart of Ronda, diving into its rich history and vibrant culture. We wandered through hidden museums, serene gardens, and savored the local cuisine. It was a day of delightful discoveries, offering a deeper connection to this enchanting Spanish town.

Our day began with a hearty Spanish breakfast at Las Maravillas. The restaurant was bustling with locals and tourists alike, all eager to start their day with some traditional fare. I opted for the *mollete* with bacon and eggs, a local favorite that combined the fluffiest, softest bread with a savory filling. Hans chose a tiered skewer of toasted bread with various fillings, a unique and delicious breakfast offering. The coffee was strong and aromatic, the perfect fuel for a day of exploration. The restaurant lived up to its name, truly marvelous.

With our appetites satisfied, we made our way to Museo Lara. This museum, housed in a historic palace, is a treasure trove of intriguing artifacts. From displays dedicated to cinema and photography to collections of antique weapons and scientific instruments, there was something to pique everyone's interest. I was particularly fascinated by the exhibit on the Spanish Inquisition, while Hans enjoyed the collection of vintage cameras. The museum provided a captivating glimpse into the past, showcasing the diverse interests of its collector, Juan Antonio Lara Jurado.

Next on our itinerary was the Casa Museo Don Bosco. This house museum, once a mansion, offered a charming glimpse into bourgeois life with its stained glass windows, carved woodwork, and antique tapestries. However, the real highlight was the terraced garden, which offered breathtaking panoramic views of Ronda and its famous Puente Nuevo. We spent a considerable amount of time simply soaking in the scenery, enjoying the fragrant relaxation the garden promised. I can see why it's considered one of the finest views in Ronda. We enjoyed some local wine on the terrace, which elevated the experience even further.

After immersing ourselves in history and culture, it was time for lunch. We chose Mesón Carmen la de Ronda, a charming eatery known for its traditional Spanish cuisine. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, with rustic décor that transported us back in time. We shared several dishes, including the *rabo de toro* (oxtail stew), which was incredibly tender and flavorful. The goat cheese salad was also a standout, with a generous portion of cheese and a delightful mix of flavors. Hans enjoyed a glass of local red wine, while I savored a refreshing *sangria*. The prices were reasonable, making it a popular spot for both locals and tourists.

With our bellies full and our spirits high, we strolled through the Jardines De Cuenca. These gardens, perched on the edge of the Tajo gorge, offered more stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The meticulously manicured greenery and colorful flowers created a serene oasis, perfect for a leisurely walk. We paused at several viewpoints, capturing photos of the dramatic cliffs and the Puente Nuevo. The gardens provided a peaceful escape from the bustling city, allowing us to connect with nature and appreciate the beauty of Ronda.

Before dinner, we decided to indulge in some retail therapy at Artesanía Medina. This shop offered a wide variety of local handicrafts and souvenirs. I was on the hunt for a unique memento of our trip, and I found a beautiful hand-painted ceramic plate depicting a scene from Ronda. Hans picked up a few small gifts for our friends back in Berlin. The shop was a treasure trove of Spanish craftsmanship, showcasing the talent and artistry of local artisans.

As the sun began to set, we made our way to Restaurante Casa María for dinner. This restaurant is known for its traditional Spanish dishes and warm, inviting atmosphere. We opted for the tasting menu, which featured a succession of tasty and traditional Spanish dishes. Each course was a delightful surprise, showcasing the freshest local ingredients. The grilled cod and scallops were cooked to perfection, and the grilled entrecote was incredibly tender. The service was attentive and friendly, making us feel right at home. It was the perfect ending to a perfect day.

Tomorrow, we plan to explore the Walls of Ronda, Puente San Miguel, and Mirador La Hoya Del Tajo. I'm particularly excited to visit the Mirador La Hoya Del Tajo, as I've heard it offers unparalleled views of the Tajo gorge. We're also planning to have dinner at Bardal, a Michelin-starred restaurant that promises a culinary masterpiece.

Today was a beautiful immersion into the heart of Ronda. The blend of history, culture, and natural beauty made for an unforgettable experience. I am so grateful for these moments with Hans, exploring the world together and creating memories that will last a lifetime. As we walked back to our hotel, hand in hand, I couldn't help but feel a sense of contentment and gratitude. Ronda had captured our hearts, and I knew that we would cherish this day for years to come.
