A Day Immersed in Ronda's History and Beauty

Today was a day of exploration, history, and breathtaking views in the heart of Ronda. Hans and I set out to discover the ancient wonders of this city, and it certainly didn't disappoint. From the towering Walls of Ronda to the stunning vistas at Mirador La Hoya Del Tajo, every moment was a feast for the senses.

Our day began with a delightful breakfast at Restaurante Sol y Sombra. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee and traditional Andalusian pastries filled the air as we settled into a cozy corner. I opted for the *tostada con tomate* and Hans chose the *churros con chocolate*. It was the perfect way to fuel up for a day of walking and sightseeing. This place is known for its traditional Andalusian cuisine, and it was easy to see why. The staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting.

With our appetites satisfied, we headed towards the Walls of Ronda. These ancient fortifications, dating back to the Moorish era, are a testament to the city's rich history and strategic importance. As we walked along the ramparts, I couldn't help but imagine the countless battles and sieges these walls had withstood. The views from the walls were simply stunning, offering panoramic vistas of the surrounding countryside. It's amazing to think that these walls once protected the city from invaders, and now they offer a peaceful and beautiful experience for visitors like us.

We explored the Puerta de Almocábar, one of the main entrances to the city. The intricate stonework and imposing structure of the gate transported us back in time. I learned that the walls were begun by the Moorish rulers in the 13th century and renovated in the 16th century by the Christians. It's fascinating to see how different cultures have left their mark on this city.

The beauty of Ronda lies not only in its stunning landscapes but also in the echoes of its rich and complex history.

Next on our itinerary was the Puente San Miguel. This ancient bridge, also known as the Roman Bridge, is the smallest of Ronda's three famous bridges. As we approached the bridge, I was struck by its simple yet elegant design. The bridge spans the Rio Guadalevín, connecting the old city with the San Miguel neighborhood. We took some photos of the bridge and the surrounding landscape. It was a perfect spot to appreciate the natural beauty of the Ronda Valley.

After our visit to the Puente San Miguel, we made our way to Mirador La Hoya Del Tajo. This lookout point offers some of the most breathtaking views in Ronda. As we stood at the edge of the cliff, I was mesmerized by the dramatic cliffs and the iconic Puente Nuevo bridge. The lush green valleys and rugged mountains created a stunning backdrop. I took countless photos, trying to capture the beauty of this place. Hans and I spent a long time simply soaking in the view. It was a truly unforgettable experience.

For lunch, we chose Restaurante Casa Luciano. This charming restaurant is known for its traditional Spanish cuisine and cozy atmosphere. We started with the *migas rondeñas*, a local specialty made with breadcrumbs, vegetables, and chorizo. For our main courses, I ordered the *rabo de toro* (oxtail stew), and Hans opted for the *arroz con bogavante* (rice with lobster). The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was excellent. It was the perfect place to relax and refuel after a morning of sightseeing.

In the late afternoon, as the sun began to set, we decided to explore the local nightlife. We stumbled upon Pub El Embrujo Ronda, a cozy bar known for its mojitos and friendly atmosphere. We ordered a couple of mojitos and sat outside, enjoying the warm evening air. The bar was lively and full of locals and tourists alike. It was a great place to unwind and reflect on the day's adventures.

As we sipped our mojitos, Hans and I talked about our plans for tomorrow. We're planning to visit the Ruins of Acinipo, an ancient Roman city located just outside of Ronda. I'm particularly excited to see the Roman theater and imagine what life was like in this city centuries ago. We are also hoping to visit Finca Descalzos Viejos, a beautiful winery located in a former monastery. I'm looking forward to tasting some of the local wines and learning about the winemaking process. And if we have time, we'll take a walk along the Senda Ronda Molinos del Tajo, a scenic trail that follows the Tajo River. It sounds like another exciting day ahead.

For dinner, we had reservations at Bardal | Benito Gómez | Restaurante en Ronda. This Michelin-starred restaurant is known for its innovative cuisine and exceptional service. From the moment we walked in, we were impressed by the elegant decor and the attentive staff. We opted for the tasting menu, which featured a series of small, artfully presented dishes. Each dish was a burst of flavor, showcasing the best of local ingredients. The sommelier paired each course with a different wine, enhancing the dining experience. It was truly a memorable meal.

After dinner, we strolled back to our hotel, Hermanos Macías Hotel, feeling content and grateful for the day's experiences. Ronda is a truly magical place, full of history, beauty, and charm. I'm so glad that Hans and I decided to visit this hidden gem in Andalusia. As I drifted off to sleep, I couldn't help but smile, knowing that tomorrow would bring even more adventures.

I did miss having my Spanish phrasebook today. It would have been helpful when interacting with locals. Also, I realized I should have packed extra memory cards for my camera! I took so many photos today, and I'm sure I'll take even more tomorrow. Live and learn, right?

Before I close for tonight, I did some research and found out that Ronda is celebrating Ronda Romántica from May 30 to June 1. It sounds like a fantastic event, with parades, music, and historical reenactments. Maybe we should extend our stay to experience this festival! There's also a conference called MIEDO by Pancho Campo taking place here. It seems like Ronda is a happening place in May!

Good night from Ronda!

Tomorrow, we venture into the ancient Ruins of Acinipo and indulge in the flavors of Finca Descalzos Viejos. Stay tuned for more tales from the Ronda Valley!
